Have heard so many opposing views on this. Got a ping teling me I'm a CC & to SI. I have been SI, but maybe I'm being silly? PH have not contacted me & surely if I was a Close Contact they would have?? I'm in NI if that helps.

What? How could there be opposing views on this? You've been advised to self-isolate. Where's the confusion? I'm currently self-isolating after an app alert (Scotland) and haven't had any phone calls except from my work occ health department.

Wasn't there a bug ? Couple of days ago ,friend got a tiny red dot with notification but no details or instructions .

^But since the app launched last month, users found themselves receiving “phantom" versions of those notifications. Messages would pop up that suggested the users might have been exposed to someone positive, but gave no further information.

“Possible Covid-19 exposure,” the notification read. "Someone you were near reported having Covid-19. Exposure date, duration and signal strength have been saved."^

I don't get why people find this so hard to understand!

That message is telling you that you've had an exposure, so the central database has checked the app to assess if you were close enough for long enough to need to self isolate.

If you weren't, then nothing more happens- the message just advises you that your data was checked- and if you were then you get the very clear message to isolate.

OP, if it told you to isolate, you have to isolate.

but if the message is not from the NHS and is false ...this might lead to confusion .Is that hard for you to understand ?

Yes, I have been isolating. Much to rolled eyes & raised brows from my family & friends. All questioning the validity of the App. One who works closely with PHA Guidance; as they only go back 48hrs to contact CCs, she poo pooed the 14 days thing. (TBF, I don't think the PHA definition of a CC is stringent enough, so can absolutely see why CV has spread so far & wide) But; I have started to doubt myself defending the App & do a little research...I believe it's accurate. Have had the pings which have said I've been a 'contact', but not a 'close contact' before. This one was definitive & advised 14 days SI etc etc.

@peridito
I have had that same 'ping' on the NHS app this morning saying I've had a possible contact , but the message then disappeared before I could read it properly . It's not saved on the app and in the short time I had to look at it , it didn't mention self isolating .

It's of concern to me as I have had very standard cold symptoms all week which have now turned into the standard cough following a cold . I'm now questioning my symptoms of course , although NHS symptom checker didn't think they were anything to worry about . I haven't been anywhere since Saturday and haven't any intention of doing so, but still .....

viccat · 16/10/2020 11:27

Isn't the whole point of the app that it knows you have been a close contact even if it has been with a stranger? i.e. if you sat next to someone on a train journey for an hour but don't know that person, so they couldn't have named you as a contact even though the app has registered it.

Youhavetobejoking · 16/10/2020 12:46

I've had 2 of those Shiny, which didn't advise SI. This was a very different format which is very clear ly advising 14days of SI. Think the others are possibles which didn't develop into anything more serious?
