Track and Trace Angst Pointless?

Many young people ( super spreaders) don’t show syptoms so won’t have been tested. If they don’t know they have it they’ll be out and about and passing it on before isolation is even effective surely?
Why the constant complaining about a system that’s doomed to failure?

That’s before a sizeable number of people aren’t even interested/ able to download in the app. It’s not really the governments fault if a large chunk of the population want to take their chances and just limit contacts wherever possible.

That’s why we need much wider testing - eg of all contacts of a positive case. This would pick up the asymptomatic spreaders and allow them to be isolated.

It's only doomed to failure because we have such a shitty system. Other countries have managed to set up efficient testing and tracing systems that are keeping the virus at bay and enabling people to lead more "normal" lives.

thecatsatonthewall · 15/10/2020 22:19

Seems to work in other countries.

When our local pub had 2 positive tests, track and trace weren't interested, didn't want the paper slips so did not contact anyone who was there that day.

Perhaps people would be more compliant if the Government did its bit?

Isn't France abandoning their T&T system, or part of it? I'm sure I read something in the news this week

thecatsatonthewall · 15/10/2020 22:26

Looks like France is introducing a newer version of its app.

UK pays 2 track and trace consultants 7k per day, 4 more on 4k per day.

IvorHughJarrs · 15/10/2020 22:49

The countries where track and trace has worked also have populations with greater civic responsibility and less sense of entitlement.
This country is screwed because a large percentage of the population think they can bend the rules and undermine any systems that might help

Because the reality is that it’s super simple to create an app that works on pretty much all app devices, even old ones. It should have been done. My DH works in mobile app games and was shocked at the ineptitude of design. I can’t download the app due to my devices not being new enough. If it was available to me, I would.

It only works well if very high numbers can be reached as mentioned by a pp. It’s unfortunate that they’ve made it appear much harder to do the basics than it is and not succeeded in it, it’s also atrocious that it’s been outsourced to ‘mates’. We need a good test and trace. It’s their own gov guidelines that tell us all to rely on test and trace to enable schools to open etc etc. They were the ones who asked us all to rely on it, but are failing to perform, so it’s acceptable to be Unimpressed as I would be if I employed anyone else to perform a job well. Complaining to our MPs and to Johnson himself is important. He keeps on and on refusing to answer questions regarding underperformance in the commons, so needs as many queries from the general public about it as possible. (Although, what with Fatima leaving ballet and joining cyber, I’ve got high hopes it will all be solved soon.)

Track and trace clearly doesn't work anywhere nearly as well as needed. This isn't a UK thing, it isn't working in the vast majority of countries.

It's just too difficult, and a 2 week circuit breaker isn't going to magically allow a working system to emerge.
