Isolation in schools query

Claire926 · 15/10/2020 17:49

I am currently working 1 day a week in a school. The teacher told me earlier that the child I was working with was probably disoriented as his sibling was self isolating at home with Reception and Year 1. Is that right that the child is in school with a sibling self isolating at home? Should the child be off too if their year group had no positive cases but the sibling's group has? I don't want to overreact without knowing the rules but don't want to be put at risk too. Thanks.

Siblings do not need to isolate as they have not been in contact with a confirmed case, only the children isolating have.

That is correct. Only the child in the bubble needs to self isolate. Your student will only need to self isolate if their sibling then develops symptoms.

That's correct contacts of contacts do not need to isolate.

I think you should probably have researched the rules before going to work in a school.
As you've been told, only the close contact needs to isolate unless/until they develop symptoms and then the whole household would isolate.

My 7 year old was told to self isolate but the rest of the household didn’t need to self isolate. Unless he developed symptoms, which he didn’t.
