Delivery man not wearing a mask

Dongdingdong · 15/10/2020 13:14

I just opened the door to a delivery driver not wearing a mask. He put the parcel on the doorstep but was about two feet away from me when I opened it, despite me taking a while to get to the door, thereby giving him ample time to walk two metres clear. He'll be visiting 100 households today at least - clearly not a very good idea.

No doubt the MN Covid police will be along in a minute to defend him to the hilt and say he doesn't need to wear a mask because he's exempt - whilst simultaneously arguing that people aren't taking restrictions seriously Hmm

I've had enough of this farce!

I've noticed this alot, I have one who actually comes right up for a signature Hmm
Slightly off topic but also noticed when p
out shopping that people have traded social distancing for masks. Do they think because they have a mask on and possibly this gives them a false sense of security and therefore they don't need to social distance anymore? My worst experience was in Tesco over the weekend.

thedevilinablackdress · 15/10/2020 13:23

I have not once seen a postie or delivery person wearing a mask when they've delivered here. Never thought anything of it as I'm never close and they're gone in seconds.

BigRedBoat · 15/10/2020 13:23

How long were you 2 feet away from him? 5 seconds? 10 seconds? Did he cough or sneeze during that time? It's not a close sustained contact so even if he has Covid it's really unlikely you would catch it from this.

OneofPansPeople · 15/10/2020 13:25

Never had a delivery person wear a mask when delivering to us either.

JemimaTiggywinkle · 15/10/2020 13:26

You don’t need to wear a mask outside.
If you think he’s too close, ask him to step back a bit.

If you live in a flat and so your doorstep is inside, then yes he should be wearing a mask.

CeibaTree · 15/10/2020 13:27

We get lots of deliveries and now I think about it I can't remember any of them wearing a mask. Hadn't even given it a second thought until now. How long were you talking to him at close quarters?

Lucindainthesky · 15/10/2020 13:28

Not had any delivery drivers wear masks, from various supermarkets, deliveroo, Amazon or anywhere.

I don't like it but I figure the interaction is very brief and in the fresh air. I won't sign their devices though.

Mrsjayy · 15/10/2020 13:29

Are you not more worried what is on the parcel than a 10 second interaction. With a delivery person? I've not really seen a delivery driver or post man wear a mask I don't think they are required too.

Planty13 · 15/10/2020 13:30

Most of mine use masks but I don’t really care. They’re outside!? And only at my door for less then 3 seconds.

Mrsjayy · 15/10/2020 13:30

I've not signed a machine I get a medical delivery from DPD they take .photos And royal mail sign for you.

knittingaddict · 15/10/2020 13:31

This wouldn't bother me at all and I'm very cautious. The delivery person is outside, it's for a few seconds and he wasn't coughing or sneezing on you. You are highly unlikely to catch covid like that.

Mrsjayy · 15/10/2020 13:34

Delivery drivers have been working all the way through we need to commend them not berate them for not wearing a mask outside

DappledThings · 15/10/2020 13:35

Never occurred to me that a delivery driver would wear a mask. This is just silly.

JANETSP12 · 15/10/2020 13:36

@Mrsjayy 100% spot on.

ZolaGrey · 15/10/2020 13:38

I don't think I've ever had a delivery driver wear a mask.

IHaveBrilloHair · 15/10/2020 13:39

My chemist delivery guy doesn't wear a mask, I'm really not worried.

Frazzled13 · 15/10/2020 13:39

Were you wearing one when you opened the door?

knittingaddict · 15/10/2020 13:39

Having read you post again op, I think you are being very extreme and unreasonable. If you look at my previous posts you will see that I am very pro measures to prevent infection and I think the government have been too slow to act.

However I am also aware that there are millions of people working out there to make life as normal as possible for all of us and that includes delivery people, shop staff, repair people and many, many others. I strongly support the wearing of masks indoors, but the risks outside are much smaller. It must be miserable to wear a mask all day, for hours on end and I think it's fine for people working outside to do without them. They aren't breaking any laws or guidance.

Mrsjayy · 15/10/2020 13:42

You just step back it's common. Sense really. op is this the first parcel you have had since March?

Youandmeareluckytobeus · 15/10/2020 13:44

Anyone delivering to mine has placed the parcel, rung the doorbell and then moved to the bottom of our path. I wouldn't like it if they didn't.

It wouldn't hurt for you to contact the delivery company and inform them of your concerns. Alternatively put a notice on your door asking for callers to knock/ring and then stand back 2 metres.

lljkk · 15/10/2020 14:00

He made sure your parcel didn't get stolen before he left. That's good thing.

U8myufo · 15/10/2020 14:13

I've never had one turn up in a mask yet. If I was anxious (I'm not) I'd just yell 'thanks' through the door so he knows I'd seen him and wait till he was gone. I usually open the door and be pleasant though

Spam88 · 15/10/2020 14:27

Eh? Why didn't you just wait for him to leave before you picked your parcels up then? I always stand back when I open the door, so even if they were nose to the threshold I'd still be a metre back from them.

Yesterdayforgotten · 15/10/2020 14:40

@Spam88 not everyone can stand half way down their hallway as some people might have a small entrance or pets/children running out. To be fair the delivery man should knock then stand back and the customer should give them a chance to do this also.
