Cough when I lay down

A family member who was staying here developed very hwvat cold but as had a temp she got tested. Negative.
The day after her test ( prior to the negative) toddler and baby had runny noses. Then I woke very ' heady' as did dh. But no main symptoms.
Over the last hour I've cough cough coughed! But I'm 99% sure it's because when I lay down the snot trickels ( sorry tmi) when I sit up it's not as bad. Had taken sudafed to relive the sinus pressure and now regretting it.
This is identical to previous colds and coughs.
No temp, or smell, taste issues.
Just annoying cough when I lay down.

That's not a symptom according to the nhs

Family1st2020 · 15/10/2020 02:52

That's what I thought just wanted to check. It's really irritating. I'm so tired but when I lay down I cough.
Think it's a prop the pillows up night

Errr, that’s definitely a testable symptom sorry

a new, continuous cough – this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (if you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual)

Sorry OP, it may well be just the cold but you’ve just described “coughing a lot more for an hour” so the rules say you all stay home until you get a negative result.

Lemonylemony · 15/10/2020 03:04

Sorry I got my mores mixed up in sentences (3am!) but if it’s more than an hour your coughing then test.... so unless the coughing stops within an hour and no more episodes at all in next 24h then I’d say test

Allaboutthatbass · 15/10/2020 03:07

Don’t guess about why you are coughing. You are coughing. Your household needs to isolate until you have a negative test. If only people with clinically certain COVID test, many (?the majority) of cases will be missed and it will continue to rip through the community. Cough = isolate and test

Cough = isolate and test

Yes this. Sorry and hopefully negative Flowers

It could be allergies or asthma which happen frequently in my family

Torvean32 · 15/10/2020 03:34

No you dot need tested. A continuous cough would not just be a cough when you lay down. Its probably phlegm going fown your throat and irritating it.
The continuous cough lasts about an hour or you get 3 episodes in 24 hours.

Yes it could be, or a cold, or flu, or covid.

As it is a new cough I would get a test. In the event it is negative, ask your doctor whether it could be GERD.

Completely forgot I posted this.
Woke up at 7am. Haven't coughed since not once.
So god knows what that was.
I even thought this morning I wondered if I imagined it but then my emails said I had replies. And dh saying how he'd had a bad nights sleep haha

Thanks for your replies.
