How far apart at lunch?

If you’re going for lunch or any other meal with one or more people not in your household/bubble: how do you sit to be able to do the 2m distancing. I can’t really see most restaurants catering for this?

I’m thinking about it because my book group meets in a bar and I can’t quite work out how much space we really need (I’m not the organiser, just debating how safe it is to go -v- the downside of not going)

I’m wondering too. It’s just not possible in most cafes/restaurants.

That would be because the rule was changed to 1 metre for pubs/bars/restaurants months ago

TigerDroveAgain · 12/10/2020 22:43

Really? I thought it was 1m+: ie 2m unless you mitigate?

It is 1m+, so you are right it's still 2m unless you add mitigations in which case if can be 1m. People seem to have forgotten the mitigations bit.

Personally I haven't eaten out with anyone other than my DP precisely because it doesn't seem particularly easy to be 2m away from someone in a restaurant. A friend and I have been thinking about eating somewhere but would need to find a place that either only has larger tables or would be happy to sit us at a bigger table than a small table to 2 to allow for distancing. Trying to accommodate more than 2 people from different households is going to need quite a lot of room - perhaps 2 or more separate tables to allow easier spreading out?

No it wasn’t. It’s 1m+, the plus bit being masks or other mitigation. If you can’t do that then it’s still 2m. I’m only eating outside with friends for this reason as transmission is much lower outside.

My DP has been out with one friend a couple of times, they sat at a table for 4 but diagonally opposite each other rather than directly opposite. Not sure that would have been far enough but better than right opposite each other.

yawnsvillex · 12/10/2020 23:19

We all sat on different tables. Made 6x bookings for a table for one Hmm

Tumbleweed101 · 13/10/2020 07:05

I only eat out with people I already spend a lot of time with atm as you can’t distance in places like restaurants. For example, colleagues I’ve worked closely with since March or family.

OverTheRainbow88 · 13/10/2020 07:11

They don’t enforce this, you sit around the usual
Size table you would have pre covid
