Have just had the call and am going tomorrow. Very excited. Anyone else doing this?

I also work part time, flexi time so it has no impact on my working day... they were stunned that it doesn't say in the paperwork that I have to ask their permission. That's councils for you, it's like selling your soul to the devil!
That aside I feel honoured to be part of it and can't wait for the ruler/thermometer etc Grin It's been interesting reading through your experiences. If anyone is at Cheadle then HI!!

andadietcoke · 03/11/2020 09:48

@EverybodyKeepCool both @Frazzled2207 and I are Cheadle too. Everyone is so lovely there. I got the same doctor both appointments and she remembered my medical history and that I had twins. I was absolutely stunned!

If I've had the placebo I'll be stunned. My respiratory rate is outside my normal range, I've had all sorts of aches and pains and my arm still aches. But then the placebo effect is strong so...

Frazzled2207 · 03/11/2020 11:17

Just had 2nd appointment. Everyone lovely. Not that snappy though was there for 1h 40 in total. Still no side effects!

Got some gossip
-Dr Baxter said it’s “generally understood” within his circles, albeit not officially, that the Pfizer vaccine will start to be administered in the UK next month! There will be official news on this in a couple of weeks.
-and that care homes and their staff will be getting it first
-they will only unblind us if and when we come eligible for a vaccine i.e. in the right group. Assuming that vaccine is not novavax, they don’t yet know if they will be recommending that people that had the novavax should be getting another on top. That could be not recommended. But no issue if you got the placebo.
-they have increased UK trial from 10,000 to 15,000. Even if it is not the first available they are optimistic that novavax will play a big part next year for certain groups
-in a conference call with all the main doctors in the UK yesterday, there are no worrying side effects reported in anyone (yet). As this vaccine apparently is modelled in Hep B and HPV vaccines, is thought to be extremely safe

Hope you’re ok

I work for the NHS and have to take leave to attend these appointments...

EverybodyKeepCool · 03/11/2020 14:30

Interesting stuff @Frazzled2207
Hope all is OK @andadietcoke. Do you normally react to vaccines?

I'm fine, thank you! Arm is much better today, and I've not had anything beyond the 'normal' side effects. May be a coincidence but the neck pain and shoulder pain is the same as after the first dose, just on the other side.
Daftapath · 03/11/2020 16:02

I'm pretty convinced that I have had the placebo. My arm aches slightly all evening and is now only very slightly tender to touch.

Interesting about the Pfizer vaccine being nearly ready. Was that the Oxford or Imperial trial?

BG2015 · 03/11/2020 17:36

I'm also at Cheadle! The staff were lovely and so grateful.

I'm a teacher and used a bit of my planning time for my first appointment and just worked into the evening to make up for the time lost.

I've told my Headteacher about it (afterwards) and he was fine about it. Second appointment next Wednesday afternoon

Not sure about Imperial but Oxford is Astra Zeneca.

@Frazzled2207, yes, I think you are right. I googled and it looks like Pfizer may be a completely separate vaccine. It has to be a good thing that there are many possible vaccines in the pipeline

Frazzled2207 · 03/11/2020 19:52

indeed both AZ and Pfizer are very close. And others (including Novavax which is hoping to have enough info to be greenlighted in the new year) not far behind.

The Dr I saw said quite similair things to yours @Frazzled2207.
He said Oxford, Pfizer and Novovax were the closest to being released.

I was wondering if there are any others taking part in Scotland? Also does anybody know if any S.W England hospitals are taking part? I have some family interested.

My second appointment is on bonfire day.

What I find baffling and perhaps someone has better insight - there seems to be an absolutely prodigious amount of paperwork involved. Could they really not digitise (is that a word) any of it?
Does some poor sod somewhere have to input all the info in somewhere Surely with the medical questionnaires it would be far easier just to go through it on a tablet. Or is it a lack of hardware?

I had a random sore leg last night after my 2nd injection. Anyone else? Is fine now.

Torvean32 · 04/11/2020 14:03

I've got my second appointment tomorrow. If you get the vaccine is it a higher dose the second time?
I'm beginning to feel nervous ...

andadietcoke · 04/11/2020 14:19

@Frazzled2207 I thought the same! I think probably hardware is the limiting factor and potentially transfer of data to Novavax in the US as there's no Privacy Shield any more and there might be GDPR issues. Yes - aching legs too but really transient apart from the arm ache.

@Torvean32 yes a bigger dose, but nothing to worry about if you didn't react to dose 1. Good luck!

Torvean32 · 04/11/2020 16:07

Thanks @andadietcoke. I dont really want to say oh i had X symptoms in case it was a placebo. Last time i had muscular pain in arms/back/legs that I needed to take pain relief for . It lasted about 72 hours.
So I'll be interested to see if its any different.

This trial had also helped me in a different matter I've been having that the Gp refused to address. Due to the consultant at the clinic I've now had an u/s and different bloods at my Gp. The consultant agrees that i need the test i asked for , as does the radiologist that did my u/s. So hopefully my Gp might finally listen.

andadietcoke · 04/11/2020 16:45

@Torvean32 I had the same side effects. I do recognise that the placebo effect is strong though. So although I suspect I've had the active vaccine, I'm not putting any money on it!

CoffeeandCroissant · 04/11/2020 16:55

It’s the only vaccine I’ve seen out of all the candidates that are further down the pipeline that actually had no viral replication in the nasal swabs of vaccinated animals,” says Dr Angela Rasmussen about a vaccine by Novavax. "

titsbumfannythelot · 04/11/2020 18:57

That's a really interesting article. Isn't science amazing

Torvean32 · 04/11/2020 20:46

Thanks @CoffeeandCroissant, that was an interesting read.

My consultant told me that they were already stockpiling the vaccine.
If its a smaller pharmaceutical company, the charge may be less. This could set them up if they can get lab facilities capable of making the vaccine.

Do ppl think that in the UK for example ppl could be vaccinated with a different vaccine? Do all vaccines need 2 injections, or is it just Novovax?

Sorry for the million questions !

Daftapath · 04/11/2020 22:49

Well, I guess they won't know whether two doses are required until they complete the study. They may find that one dose is sufficient or it may be that two doses gives longer lasting antibodies
