Are you still wearing rings?

I was out this weekend and noticed a lady wearing loads of massive rings, she was washing her hands at the time but there is no way should could effectively clean her hands with massive baubles on her fingers and it got me thinking how many people are still wearing rings? I took mine off in March and haven't worn them since as you can't clean your hands effectively wearing them. Why has this not been communicated to people?

OP posts:

Stopped wearing mine in March. I work as a nurse. To all those laughing and making fun of the OP - she is right. Just sayin'

So your rings didn't spread viruses pre March but now they do? I wonder how many people have caught Covid via their rings

@Belle0705

Hiya - I've already explained why - earlier in the thread if you're interested. It is a boring story, but hey ho, the weather's rubbish where I am, and may be you'll be bored enough to check back...

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 12/10/2020 12:03

Yes. Wedding, engagement and eternity rings, ring on right hand, bracelet and watch. I wore them before so there’s no reason not to wear them now

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 12/10/2020 12:03

God the amount of playground lame bitchiness on this thread is embarrassing.

I think the stakes are higher now though.

All the hand washing made my ring finger get a bit site.

ScaramoucheFandango · 12/10/2020 12:08

Sore!

Cruachan31 · 12/10/2020 12:09

@MalbecIsMyOne

Nurse here, still wearing my rings. And a watch, shock horror.

Don’t wear engagement ring at work as it rips gloves, and I take my watch off, but even we are allowed to wear wedding bands.

Yes, fair enough a wedding ring, but not the “loads of massive rings”that the OP described in her opening post! However, even a wedding ring makes it harder to ensure proper hand hygiene. What kind of watch do you wear, as most of them are also banned for nurses, due to infection control. Policy for nurses is bare below the elbows!

To those saying they can wash their hands properly with rings on their fingers, this is highly unlikely, they may look clean but they are almost certainly still harbouring germs.

You are being very sensible OP and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise, because you are doing the correct thing as defined in Infection Control and they are......just WRONG!

Purpledaisychain · 12/10/2020 12:10

You can still clean your hands properly. It is just a faff having to take them on and off. I haven't really worn mine since March either.

elliejjtiny · 12/10/2020 12:10

I'm still wearing my wedding ring. Took my engagement ring off when pregnant with dc2 because my fingers got fat. Must get them both resized and give up on the idea that my fingers will ever be a size J again.

Plurr · 12/10/2020 12:14

Took all my rings off at the beginning of lockdown and haven't put them back on. I've actually got so used to not wearing any rings that when I saw this thread I thought oh yes! I used to wear rings!

JudgeRindersMinder · 12/10/2020 12:17

@Buckwheat80

Does anyone know if wedding rings are safer than other jewelry because they've been blessed by a member of the clergy?
Not that I should really dignify this with a reply, but until the relatively recent fashion of wedding rings with stones embedded, wedding rings have generally been just a band of smooth metal, so no nooks or crannies to harbour nasties
VinylDetective · 12/10/2020 12:17

I can’t get my wedding ring off. It hasn’t left my finger since the bloke put it there 20 years ago and it’ll come off literally over my dead body. I never take my engagement or eternity rings off outside the house in case I lose them.

glassshoes · 12/10/2020 12:21

I'm not wearing mines, work in healthcare and washed my hands frequently using water and soap. Find I am washing them loads more not both inside and outside of work using alcohol gel which isn't great for the metal and stones I understand. So have stopped for now on that basis.

Oodlesofnoodles20 · 12/10/2020 12:24

@NoParticularPattern you still have your nostril hair? Shocking! No wonder Covid is rising again. I plucked mine out back in March, did my eyebrows and eyelashes too!

Etinox · 12/10/2020 12:24

I stopped in March. My wedding ring is intricate- hard to get hands clean and I'd already had too many heart stopping moments putting it down and then noticing it not there. Ditto earrings since mask wearing started; I've already irreparably broken a pair of glasses, I'm not going to risk flicking out an earring.

Tristatearea · 12/10/2020 12:25

I’ve kept my rings on. A quick dousing with sheep dip seems to keep people away from me which is far easier than all this hand washing 🐑

You are correct in not wearing them. However if you work in Healthcare, Infection Control guidelines say you shouldn’t have been wearing any rings with stones in them at any time you have been working!
passtheloveon · 12/10/2020 12:30

I work as a carer and we are allowed to wear a plain wedding band only.Stringent hand washing rules apply as they always did.

catwithflowers · 12/10/2020 12:32

@HaggisBurger 🤣🤣🤣

Etinox · 12/10/2020 12:36

This has galvanised me to get some silicon rings for me and DH who doesn't wear one
Here

Picklypickles · 12/10/2020 12:37

I haven't worn any jewellery for a few years ago, I seem to be allergic to metal now! If I could still wear rings though I wouldn't be bothering to at the moment and getting hand sanitiser all over them or risk them falling off and down the plughole when I'm washing hands!

RationalOne · 12/10/2020 12:37

🤣🤣🤣

Rosehassometoes · 12/10/2020 12:39

Took mine off in March too. Always remember the Two Fat Ladies cooking with theirs on.

trixiebelden77 · 12/10/2020 12:50

I never wear rings. I’m an ICU dr.

Everyone’s enjoying their ROFLs here but I’m wondering how many people who feel one can wash properly with rings on would be happy with their healthcare workers wearing them? Every ICU I’ve worked in has required ‘bare below the elbows’; most make an exception for a plain wedding ring but certainly nothing with stones. I’m really pleased to hear that was all wasted and the consensus is it’s fine and perfectly clean.
