Are you still wearing rings?

I was out this weekend and noticed a lady wearing loads of massive rings, she was washing her hands at the time but there is no way should could effectively clean her hands with massive baubles on her fingers and it got me thinking how many people are still wearing rings? I took mine off in March and haven't worn them since as you can't clean your hands effectively wearing them. Why has this not been communicated to people?

No - nor my Fitbit.

Because washing my hands eleventy billion times a day & using hand sanitiser isn't good for them or for my skin. I find it too difficult to dry my hands properly and my skin gets sore

I didn't mind removing them or taking more care to dry underneath them when
I wasn't washing my hands so frequently, but now it would drive me nuts or deter me from washing them as often as I do.

You can't know if she removes them to wash & dry her hands, so I'd ease up on the judging!

@DioneTheDiabolist

I've stopped wearing mine because I developed contact dermatitis due to all the hand washing and antibacterial gel and have to apply cream often.
This. I used to get it occasionally anyway but it got really bad and wouldn't clear up so I just took them off.

Plus my aunty is a stone polisher by trade and she always said if you want nice stones take them off to do the dishes.

AuntieDolly · 12/10/2020 11:04

I took mine off in March too. I'm not usually in contact with people with my pubes out, so I've let them be.

SoUtterlyGroundDown · 12/10/2020 11:05

Yes I’m still wearing mine, and I’m still alive.
There were nasty viruses around pre Covid, and I wore them then. I also washed my hands pre Covid to avoid getting those nasty viruses. Nothing has changed.

SoUtterlyGroundDown · 12/10/2020 11:06

I do wonder if other people didn’t wash their hands much pre Covid? And if not, why not? It’s an effective way of reducing exposure to potentially harmful viruses such as flu.

romeolovedjulliet · 12/10/2020 11:08

i've been wearing my wedding ring for nearly 20 years, my finger would have to be chopped off before i'd take it off for anyone !

ScaramoucheFandango · 12/10/2020 11:09

Took them off in March too!

ScouseQueen · 12/10/2020 11:12

I also paused wearing mine in March. I wouldn't usually put them on just for being around the house, so as I've been WFH they've stayed on the ring stand.

BoudiccasBoudoir · 12/10/2020 11:14

I only wear them occasionally, usually wear them on a necklace instead. I didn't change this due to covid because I have always washed my hands many, many times a day. The only difference with covid is that I use the hand gel out and take a little bit longer to wash my hands. I mostly wore them on nice occasions, and not had any of those really so....

BoudiccasBoudoir · 12/10/2020 11:14

I have stopped having my nails done though!

Topseyt · 12/10/2020 11:15

I've worn my wedding ring for 27 years continuosly. I somehow doubt I would be able to get it off easily now.

Amazingly, I am still alive. 🤣🤣🤣

As a compromise, should I perhaps strip naked and shave myself bald? Though on second thoughts, that might not be a particularly good Idea and over the winter I may be more likely to get hypothermia.

Graciebobcat · 12/10/2020 11:15

I can't get my wedding or engagement rings off, so yes I am!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 12/10/2020 11:15

@vanillandhoney

Yep, I don't seem to have spontaneously combusted Hmm

Or maybe we should all be naked 24/7 and walk through decontamination showers every time we leave or enter a building.

Well - if they needed anyone to clear a building during an emergency naked me could make a fortune.
Remmy123 · 12/10/2020 11:16

Rings on and I'm still alive and well

JamSarnie · 12/10/2020 11:17

This thread is classic Grin

Me too, but mine flared up due to stress when my dad passed away in May, and I can’t get it under control. I’m at the steroid cream and cotton gloves in bed stage
daytripper28 · 12/10/2020 11:18

@Coffeeandcrumpet

Stopped wearing mine in March. I work as a nurse.

To all those laughing and making fun of the OP - she is right. Just sayin'

IrmaFayLear · 12/10/2020 11:19

I agree, soutterlygrounddown... didn’t people wash their hands before? Confused

Why is it a brand new concept this idea of washing hands? It is astonishing to me that we needed telling this.

TheVanguardSix · 12/10/2020 11:19

I think we should all be naked. And body hair is a bit problematic, too, no end of nasties can be caught up in that.

Not to mention the risk of dogs chasing us, thinking we've got squirrels between our legs. Grin

But back to the OP, you are having a laugh, right?

Oblomov20 · 12/10/2020 11:20

Are you serious? Hmm
Yes I'm still wearing my wedding, engagement and eternity ring.

BrazenlyDefying · 12/10/2020 11:21

I take all of my rings off every 5 minutes and nuke them on high in the microwave. Then put them back on my hands, which I then plunge into boiling water for 10 minutes, and then submerge my entire body into a vat of bleach.

You can't be too careful.

Hmm
GinnieHempstock · 12/10/2020 11:22

I wear my wedding ring, which is loose enough to wash under/around.

To all those taking the piss out of the OP, have you heard about the bare below the elbow policy in hospitals? Yes, rings do harbour lots of nasties, especially stoned rings, so she does have a point.

Buckwheat80 · 12/10/2020 11:22

Does anyone know if wedding rings are safer than other jewelry because they've been blessed by a member of the clergy?

TheVanguardSix · 12/10/2020 11:23

Stopped wearing mine in March. I work as a nurse. To all those laughing and making fun of the OP - she is right. Just sayin'

In your case, fair play, totally. Besides, you've got latex gloves to deal with all of the time.
But I think, for example, if you're working from home and your interaction is reduced to school gate pick-ups and drop-offs, with very little else in between, ring wearing is just not that risky. For what it's worth, other than my wedding and engagement ring, I've never worn rings. Don't like the feel of jewellery at all.

dottiedodah · 12/10/2020 11:23

I am still wearing Shock horror! My wedding ring ,eternity ring ,and 2 gold rings /bracelets on my right hand .Never even occurred to me . Plenty of Handwash rubbed in ,and lots of hand washing when possible with soap and water!
