Londoners - what do we think will happen next week?

I read earlier that Sadiq Khan has said London will be treated as one. Cases are rising quite quickly but we are way way off Nottingham, Manchester etc.

I'm guessing Monday's announcement will say no mixing of households but hospitality will stay open. Can't remember where that fits into the tiers, maybe tier 2?

I'll be gutted if kids sport is postponed again Sad

As the wonderful Gove is planning on putting custom posts on roads into Kent, surely that's one boundary that will be easy to police?

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 11/10/2020 07:55

As for Richmond. It's worth considering its close proximity to Heathrow airport.

Heathrow would affect Hillingdon and Ealing, I worked in Heathrow for a short time, it’s its staff comes mostly from there, not Richmond

@LBOCS2

Tbh if they're doing a London wide lockdown I actually think they'd be better off implementing it inside the M25. You'd at least have a clear demarcation; as another poster cited above you could walk down the road and be in a non-London borough - we can certainly walk to Tandridge from where we are which is a Surrey borough and therefore wouldn't be included.
I think you're right about this.

But a lot of stuff to do with restrictions in implemented by local councils, so I hope those which straddle M25 are ready (or are given time to get ready) to operate with that as a boundary.

Longwhiskers14 · 11/10/2020 08:05

I think they'll ban households from mixing. It's a bit bonkers really, because while we haven't been going out to restaurants to lessen the risk of exposure, we have hosted friends in our homes while strictly abiding to the rule of six. We won't be able to do that if this lockdown happens – but we will be able to meet them in the pub, because the Govt wants to save the hospitality industry. Plus we have to explain to the kids that they can be in class together in year bubbles of 180, yet my DD and her friend won't be able to have an after-school play date with just the two of them. None of it is logical!

I live in SE22 East Dulwich, Borough of Southwark but my local amenities are in SE26 which in the Lewisham Borough. Both boroughs have a rising R number but according to the NHS app Southwark is on a steady "medium" rating. My daughter goes to school in Lewisham. Both DH and I have worked throughout this pandemic. He works in Camberwell, I work in Chiswick, in the Borough of Hounslow.

I've had the virus, so I know what to expect.

The only people I mix with regularly are my PiL and they DGAF about restrictions. They are in their 70s, not in the best of health, but they would rather spend time with their grandchildren with the time they have left on this planet than be miserable. I haven't seen my friends for months. Neither has my husband.

daisypond · 11/10/2020 08:58

I’ve not seen my parents, any family members or friends since March. A month ago I booked a train ticket to see my bereaved sister for the day - next week. I suppose I will have to cancel. Sigh...

daisypond · 11/10/2020 09:00

Meant to say, my area is classed as medium risk, but cases are rising. Sixth in London.

cheninblanc · 11/10/2020 12:38

Same for me, I've seen no friends since early February. My dds have, I decided the people we meet between my work, their school and friends is enough, my friends feel the same so we've not seen anyone. Luckily I like my husbands company! Wander if it'll be essential travel tmrw through the capital?

MRex · 11/10/2020 15:31

"Within M25" would be simplest for people to understand, everyone knows where they live. It wouldn't work with bits of funding per borough though.

Dustballs · 11/10/2020 16:34

Sorry - have I missed something?

OP asked what might happen next week re Lockdown in London. Posters have mostly talked about where it might be.

Is that because the alert system tells us what will happen. I haven’t read it. I have such fatigue with all of this. What might happen?

SquirmOfEels · 11/10/2020 16:35

I think it could be made to,work - after all boroughs in other parts of the country have had different restrictions by wards. As M25 (probably) doesn't for ward boundaries, you'd need to work out a formula based on numbers of households (and or businesses, and/or amenities and/or area) - just like wards but with a different line. It would take a bit of time to process but seems perfectly do-able

MarshaBradyo · 11/10/2020 16:39

I do t know but shitting any businesses is hugely expensive. And Khan can’t do it without funding.

I suppose it will be households.

MarshaBradyo · 11/10/2020 16:40

Shutting ( using i instead of other is most common typo I reckon)

Dustballs · 11/10/2020 16:45

Do you think we’ll be made to stay within the M25 for the foreseeable future?

Or maybe even not leave our borough? Unless it’s for work?

How would they enforce any of that?

nancy75 · 11/10/2020 16:52

They couldn’t make us stay within our Borough, there are so many people on edges of boroughs it wouldn’t work - there would be places where you would only be allowed in half the street you live on, or couldn’t cross the road when you came out of your front door!

Wakemeuuuup · 11/10/2020 16:52

I can't imagine how they can say you can't leave your borough. I live a few minutes from the boundary of 3 London Boroughs.

MarshaBradyo · 11/10/2020 16:53

I doubt it re boroughs. So many people cross for school or work

SquirmOfEels · 11/10/2020 16:54

Well, as Khan says it's going to be a whole-London approach, I think the chances of being told you cannot leave your borough are nil.

The remaining question is where they draw the oundary of the edge of London. Along the outside of the outer boroughs or use the 25?

Dustballs · 11/10/2020 17:01

So will it be pubs and restaurants closed within the boundary?

Or just no mixing households? Not many households mix round here anyway. We all live in tiny spaces. Very few people have grandparents or family around to mix with. Only one family I know of.

MarshaBradyo · 11/10/2020 17:02

I don’t know but you can’t close pubs etc without a payout. And it’s a whopping great bill, again

RedMarauder · 11/10/2020 17:14

Likely Tier 2 according to the report I read in The Guardian today.

Titsywoo · 11/10/2020 17:14

Very good question. I live about half a mile from the boundary of a London borough but I'm inside the M25. To get to school my kids have to go about 500 yards into the London borough. It would be crazy if they couldn't go to school surely!
Dustballs · 11/10/2020 17:17

Tier 3 sounds like a total lockdown again. No school no work. No social mixing it says. Is that right?

MarshaBradyo · 11/10/2020 17:19

Dustball do you mean no school or school not included? School is planned to be closed

‘However, places of worship would remain open and there are currently reportedly no plans to close schools in any of the tiers‘
