Is anybody else actively avoiding being tracked and traced?

I am actively avoiding anywhere that tracks and traces. Aside from having DC at school, which obvs I have no control over, we don't go anywhere (pub, restaurant etc) where they would need to take our details.

Reason being, I don't want to be at the mercy of someone who may have rocked up to that place and is now infected. It's more to do with the absolute balls-ache of having to self-isolate than a desperate fear of Covid, although you can never tell how you would get it.

Anyone else avoiding T&T?

@Asterion Ah right!

I’ve got the app but I’m not going to a lot of places where I’d use it. A Costa in the cafe is not worth having to self isolate for 2 weeks!

Smallsteps88 · 09/10/2020 21:04

I’m avoiding having to give my details because I guarantee you it’s only a matter of weeks before all those details are accidentally plastered on a billboard or left on an open laptop on the tube.

hm246 · 09/10/2020 21:07

@DelphiniumBlue
I'm wondering what happens if you've already had Covid. My understanding is that you would still have to isolate if you were tracked and traced.

Yes you do, a friend had Covid over the summer and her sister tested positive last week. My friend was then offer a Covid test, which came back negative but still had to isolate.

ivykaty44 · 09/10/2020 21:08

I’ve been taking track and trace details

I’ve had people point blank refuse to give them

I’m legally not allowed to refuse them entry

Often the people who don’t want to give T&T details are the same people exempt from wearing face covering & allergic to hand sanitizer they are requested to use

🙈

bonbonours · 09/10/2020 21:12

Not my personal experience but apparently when a child in an extra curricular class tested positive, t&t talked through all the risk assessment and procedures in place and said no-one else in the class need isolate as they had been more than 2m, not sharing resources, ventilation in room etc etc. This is exactly why they are allowing people to meet where there are written procedures in place, which is completely different from going to your mat's house. So I don't believe you can be made to isolate just because you were in the same building as someone who tested positive, only if you count as a "close contact" which is more than 15 mins closer than 2m, or specifically coughed / sneezed on etc.

Lemons1571 · 09/10/2020 21:12

I can hear Huw Edwards at 10pm now:

“Thousands of people may have been asked to isolate unnecessarily after a hitch in the nhs covid app”

Dum dum dum duuummmmm

pandafunfactory · 09/10/2020 21:12

I'm not downloading it and I may or may not have made accidental errors in details I've given rendering them harder to use. I barely go anywhere anyway. I have zero trust in the system.

Laufeythejust · 09/10/2020 21:13

Nope. I’ve downloaded the app and want to know if I’ve been near someone with it, so that I don’t spread it. I want to carry on with my life as much as I can and if that means being traced/ isolating/ getting tested then that’s ok with me. I’ve had it since it came out and not had any concerns so far.

underneaththeash · 09/10/2020 21:14

I tend to avoid the places that aren’t track and tracing. Usually full of arseholes.
Where we live people have been good at following the rules, wearing masks and social distancing and our cases are low, even though we’re near London.

pandafunfactory · 09/10/2020 21:16

Track and trace told a colleague they needed to extend isolation. The colleague has Covid, tested positive and isolated from then on for 10 days. A relative tested positive during this time. Track and trace allege the colleague now needs to isolate for 14 days from the relatives positive test. This is not correct. They have threatened my colleague with a fine!

WinifredSanderson · 09/10/2020 21:17

Yes, I actively avoid it. I don't have the app and don't intend to get it. You do realise it's not an NHS app at all but actually a serko app. Thanks but no thanks.

AestheticWitch · 09/10/2020 21:17

My SIL hasn't downloaded it because she is self employed and won't get paid for two weeks and I don't blame her. But then she doesn't go anywhere apart from school drop off.

Isn't it to do with time too, so 15 minutes within close vicinity?

Doesn't London currently have some of the lowest rates in the country?
PuzzledObserver · 09/10/2020 21:18

Not at all.

I’m actively avoiding being with large groups of people, or spending much time in cramped poorly ventilated premises, to minimise the risk of catching the virus.

But if I am close enough to someone who later turns out to test positive, then I want to know. Because I don’t want to pass it on if I do happen to have caught it from them. I work with people who are very vulnerable, as does my DH.

Why would you self isolate after a negative test?

OrangeSamphire · 09/10/2020 21:20

I’m avoiding it now since I checked in at a coffee shop and then realised I couldn’t check out and was still in the cafe six hours later according to the app, when actually my visit was 10 minutes long to pick up a take away.

I don’t want to be forced to self isolate (again) for two weeks because someone with covid rocked up an hour or two hours after I left the cafe.

IndiaMay · 09/10/2020 21:25

I havent downloaded the app as my phone is so old it wont fit on there. If they have a written book and ask me for my details then I give them. If they say 'scan the QR code' I don't because I cant and I'd rather avoid being tracked and traced

Doesn’t give you much confidence in their decisions does it. Especially if you have no right of reply.

I wonder if t&t would believe you, or just blindly insist you had to isolate for 2 weeks?
megletthesecond · 09/10/2020 21:28

Yes. Also avoiding anywhere that needs track and trace. I have enough to deal with without adding that hassle to my life.

PleasantVille · 09/10/2020 21:28

This thread is full of confusion

Do people not know that giving your details at venues and the covid app are two totally separate things?

There's so much misunderstanding. The two things are independent of each other and have different purposes.

funny that...

shame we will all be penalised with more and stricter restrictions, and our tax bill is going to be through the roof. The future is bleak thanks to the selfish snowflakes, it really is depressing.

Ginogineli · 09/10/2020 21:30

I don’t use it and I won’t leave my actual details either

It’s not reliable and they record details not times so entire pub isolates pn that day

Crazy

I just say I’ve done it or leave false details

That doesnt make sense, if you have the covid app downloaded with your Bluetooth on it couldn't possibly detect you were in contact with someone whe was there 6 hours later unless you'd left your phone behind and didn't realise Confused

If someone has a positive test and was known to be in ABC cafe at 3pm no one is going to be calling someone who had a coffee there at 9am
