Smoking when covid +ve

We are 5 members at home. Mom, day, myself and two siblings.
We tested positive for covid 19 and taking medicine advised by the doctor. We are home quarantined.
The thing is, my dad couldn't stop smoking even now.
Please help me to know if smoking while he has covid effects health in any way?

Are there not studies showing nicotine has a protective effect?

Although other studies show it can be detrimental so who knows

I thought I had also seen something about nicotine/ smoking being protective ? Obviously smoking is a horrible habit but it's not an easy thing to give up even without COViD you hear of life long smokers not being able to quit when they have been diagnosed with smoking related illnesses
