How can we argue with the facts?

If we look at the data and see it for what it truly is, how can we argue with it? Why are we following conjecture? Why are we still listening to Ferguson? This v.short video wraps it up for me.

Why are you so desperate to watch a YouTube video OP? This is what has been said about his videos:

"ridiculously wrong - in just about every way" a virologist.

"Cummins is a well known 'autodidact' contrarian. He has shown himself to be scientifically illiterate over many years. I wish people would stop paying him any notice. I salute those willing to expend energy opposing his lies, but he'll never learn & neither will his followers" a doctor.

"deeply pseudoscientific and dangerous rubbish" another doctor.

typo/ correction: so desperate for people to watch a YouTube video

MRex · 06/10/2020 14:20

Seasonality does look like a fairly big factor, but population density and population age are both huge factors too. Cases are going up again in Sweden, so we might get verification of seasonality as you say. I don't know how much can be done with the information given that we have 4.5 months of autumn/ winter to get through, but it might let the Southern hemisphere go out more.

amicissimma · 06/10/2020 14:24

@Fetaliving

Depends. Are we talking about real facts or rantings on YouTube that pander to people’s conformation bias?
Facts, eh? Despite having a 'world beating' testing system:

We do not know how many people have Covid-19 now. Although this is the only pathogen for which we do this, we count everybody who is found to have Covid RNA in their bodies, infective or not, as 'having Covid'. We do not know how many asymptomatic people have Covid RNA in their bodies but have not been tested.

We do not know how many people have had Covid-19.

We do not know how many people have died of Covid.

We do not know how many people who test positive for Covid RNA are infectious.

We do not know the false positive rate.

We do not know the false negative rate.

By 'know' I mean, actually know, rather than 'so-and-so says as much as/as little as ...'

amicissimma · 06/10/2020 14:28

@LiberteEgaliteBeyonce

If COVID 19 is nothing to worry about, then offer your help to support those who are ill with Covid 19.
And if 'flu is nothing to worry about, perhaps you could offer your help to support those who are ill with 'flu, suffering with complications of a previous 'flu infection years ago, or have lost a loved one to 'flu.

See also a number of other illnesses.

Presumably the OP hopes we will watch it and realise, as they have, that all the experts clearly have no idea what they are talking about. Or that they're all 'in on it' and are lying to us.

lljkk · 06/10/2020 14:59

Isn't Dominic Cummings running the govt now? I mean, choose your bad guys appropriately, OP.

LiberteEgaliteBeyonce · 06/10/2020 15:10

Ami i am genuinely not sure what you are saying... can you clarify?

LiberteEgaliteBeyonce · 06/10/2020 15:16

Ami don't get me wrong, I think I am misunderstood. I don't think Covid 19 or flu for this matter, is nothing to worry about. I think they are worrying illnesses for vulnerable people. For the deniers, I was just inviting them to make themselves useful to the aforementioned vulnerable. It'd make sense as they think it's much ado about nuffink (in their minds, not mine)

VenusTiger · 06/10/2020 16:49

@lljkk Dominic Cummings??? Ivor Cummins.

To those who refuse to watch a video full of graphs, but then will rubbish said video, I'd like to ask what are we to think about the FACTS? PCR tests are massively ineffective, we know this (unless you're a BBC-loving denier) the death rate is tiny and not to mention the 5yr average on other illnesses.
Dead viruses and other coronaviruses are being picked up by the PCR test. The WHO told us that asymptomatic are NOT infectious. But hey, don't worry about this, Carl Heneghen and Gupta et al, are obviously all charlatans.
Matt Hancock stated today that cancer patients will only be treated if Covid 19 stays 'under control' - thing is, it IS UNDER CONTROL - the case numbers are utter BS - you think these "experts" as some of you refer to them as, are going to lie on national tv regarding the false positives?
You think it's alright Jack for Hancock to say what he did about cancer patients because of a virus that IS UNDER CONTROL. Wake up.

You are right we can’t argue with facts.
That’s why I can not argue that your YouTube video is not facts.

raininthemiddleofthenight · 06/10/2020 16:55

@Quartz2208

Because facts are still subjective as much as we like to think that they are.

Because lets take the National Geographic Article which states:

In other words, between 1 and 10 in 100,000 people who get the flu will die, but between 500 and 1,000 in 100,000 people who get COVID-19 will pass away.

Which gives Covid on this basis a mortality rate of between 0.5-1%

Some will read that and think oh gosh that is a lot of people this is very serious we must do all we can to stop it

And others will read that and say well actually that isnt a huge amount why are we bothering.

And that is really the most dangerous thing about this it has always been Schrodinger virus because it is both. It is far more dangerous that normal flu but isnt anything like as dangerous as Bird Flu/Ebola etc.

It has a high enough mortality rate for those who take it seriously to be right, it also has a low enough mortality rate for the arguments that we need to make sure we protect everything else

And that is its true danger and the reason why there is no clear way through this

Agree with this completely
raininthemiddleofthenight · 06/10/2020 16:59

Dead viruses and other coronaviruses are being picked up by the PCR test

Well then if that's your assertion and if it's correct, then that would mean the death rate of 'real' COVID is actually higher than reported??

CoffeeandCroissant · 06/10/2020 17:07

"The WHO told us that asymptomatic are NOT infectious. "

Why do people keep repeating this? It was said by one person at one press conference, over 4 months ago and clearly said in error as it was corrected the following day.

But then the people who keep repeating it probably know that...

The rest of your post also contains claims that are either demonstrably false, misleading or out of context. Again, maybe consider getting your "facts" from more reliable sources than dubious YouTube videos.

VenusTiger · 06/10/2020 17:15

@CoffeeandCroissant why is YouTube suddenly the bad guy? Heneghen and Gupta are stating these facts about PCR tests, virus debris, false positives and dead viruses.

Is anyone willing to watch the video and then comment?

OP posts:
Sunshinespacecadet · 06/10/2020 17:47

Err no thanks

VenusTiger · 06/10/2020 19:54

Okay, that's fine. Just wanted some feedback on the video.
Those calling it a conspiracy theory video are hilarious!! I don't follow any of the conspiracies out there on ID vaccines, or 5G (I don't fully understand that theory tbf) or on the powers that be trying to control us.
Still don't understand the "no thanks" posts either - what have you got to lose watching a video with graphs on? Seems another expert, that is Carl Heneghan is being silenced by the majority. Sad times. Stay ignorant people. Over and out.

Keep your blinkers on and ignore the research.

New WHO estimate puts coronavirus death rate at only 0.13% That's a little more than one-tenth of 1%, which the WHO says is the rate for the seasonal flu.

Meanwhile,a new study by researchers at Wayne State University in Michigan foundCOVID-19's severity may be fading as the death rate falls. In August, the New York Times found in an analysis of data that up to 90% of people testing positive carried barely any virus.
