How would you ever know where you caught it?

My ds recently caught Covid. We were hugely shocked because we thought we'd been really careful. Haven't been going hardly anywhere.

The rest of the household tested negative, so ds has caught it somewhere outside the house.

School are adamant it's an isolated case. The whole Bly other thing he's done is played outdoor sports which is all very controlled and nipped into a shop once wearing a mask. No one at the sport he plays has reported any symptoms.

He's been nowhere else.

How the hell has he caught it then?

And how do PHE do their graphs and know for sure where people have caught it?

I’d put money on him having caught it at school. Just because no confirmed cases at school does not mean there is no transmission at school. Lots of kids have no symptoms.
Hope he Is ok.
Out of interest how did you manage to get tests for the whole family- are you all symptomatic?
Also a possibility that a member of the family had it and passed it on and has now recovered I think.

I'm sure it must have been school, but if there was an asymptomatic case, how can it be that my ds is the only one who's caught it and with with symptoms?

Dh and I were coughing though much milder than ds and were convinced we had it too but tested negative.

Maybe your ds was a false positive? And you all have a cold/cough?

Spicegirls · 06/10/2020 08:14

It seems unlikely. He's got an incredible cough.

Would be a big coincidence to get a false positive and have a cough like that.

I'll forever be wracking my brains where he caught it and I can't see how T&T could ever be sure where someone caught it unless there's a clear link of cases.

I will catch it from the kids from school .....most likely

GregariousMountains · 06/10/2020 08:35

He will have caught it at school. We have been told all along it is mild or asymptomatic in children.
So no he isn't the only one in his school to have it, probably not even the only one with symptoms but the symptoms can be so mild they are written off as just another cold. Because for the vast majority of people it is just another cold, its because we can't accurately predict who the minority for whom it is a serious disease are that we all have to test and isolate.

I’d put money on school too, especially if you’ve hardly been anywhere else. Could be the sport if close contact.

halcyondays · 06/10/2020 08:42

Don’t studies show plenty of children don’t have any of the “three symptoms “ but they may have other symptoms which we’re told to ignore in the UK although other countries may test for them.

I would say school. My kids bubbles are 250 each plus all teaching staff. We know theres no social distancing/mask wearing etc and that it does pass amongst children. The odds are that school is the place where he caught it-I bet if they tested everyone in his bubble there would be plenty of others.
