PE clothes

Dd is in Year 1 and did PE today in the pouring rain.I came early to pick her up and noticed they were very wet!

They keep their kit at school and this will go unwashed until half term. The wet clothes will be worn again tomorrow when they do PE but does this increase the risk of Covid transmission? I wash Dd uniform as soon as she comes in from school as requested by school but I don’t know why the same rule doesn’t apply to the PE kit.

Bizarre! Our school is asking that kids wear PE clothes to school on PE day and wear it all day. They won't go outdoors if it's really wet as they would then be wet the rest of the day.

PE kit is never left in our school and especially not with covid. They arent even using changing rooms so nowhere to leave clothing

dementedpixie · 05/10/2020 22:37

Can you not just tell her to bring it home each day for washing

My secondary aged son has to go in to school in PE kit 4 days a week. He has to take a waterproof kagool to wear to do or in rain too.

NannyMcphee39 · 05/10/2020 22:41

I’d feel happier if they went in PE kit all day, mainly for the reason of being able to wash the kit and keep it fresh.

I wouldn't worry about Covid but I would worry that the damp clothing will be still damp tomorrow, or stinky because it was damp, or both. Seems like a ridiculous rule and most schools I know are wearing PE kit all day and then wash before next use under Covid restrictions.

DDs pe kits are kept at school, but they are sent home if wet or dirty. They do indoor pe in bad weather (they usually have one indoor, one outdoor pe each week)

ATM DDs school they have to wear PE kit on PE days.

But previously it was kept in school untill the holidays (probs to stop kids forgetting it). I got DD to bring it home at the end of the week so I could clean it.

It's not the possession of the school. Just get your DD to bring it home so you can wash it?!

Yes, I will ask for Dd to be brought home in future I think, she will probably forget though in the rush! Maybe the teacher could remind her

So they wear a PE kit for around 6-7 weeks until half term and it's not washed once during that time?

NannyMcphee39 · 05/10/2020 22:57

Yes that’s right! It’s the way they normally do it and not changed this since Covid came along. By the end of that half term usually the children have lost a pump or pair of shorts! No other parent has ever asked for the PE kit earlier!

Thats weird. Have never left PE kit in school for weeks. Always took kit in on PE days before and now they wear it all day

Even pre-covid times this doesn't sound good. I would personally get it home and washed weekly.

My daughter has PE on a Wed and Thurs and wears it to and from school. I don't have time to wash kit in between as kit won't dry in time (I have no dryer). It's always washed ready for the following week.

NannyMcphee39 · 05/10/2020 23:15

I can ask her teacher if it’s okay to bring it home after PE, I feel sorry for them having to wear the damp and (probably) smelly kit tomorrow!!

Send her some other stuff tomorrow and get her to bring kit home tomorrow.

I made a very mum error and mixed up their pe kits Blush but it was easily sorted. Well after a quick trip to sports direct...........
