Hoarse voice

I haven't been feeling myself but it's probably just a cold.

Last week I had nausea and a slight upset tummy. I did eat a curry though (spicy food doesn't agree with me) so I thought these were just IBS symptoms.

I now have a very hoarse voice and am fatigued. No other symptoms. I spent last week with my mum who has developed what seemed to be a cold but has since had a Covid test and is awaiting results.

My symptoms don't warrant a test according to the NHS.

Has anyone on here tested positive who had similar symptoms to start?

Is the hoarseness from wearing a mask?

eyesbiggerthanstomach · 05/10/2020 01:21

No I only wear a mask when I am shopping which I haven't done much of for the past couple of weeks.

Unfortunately the NHS list of symptoms is far more limited than most other countries.

Fatigue is a common Covid symptom, and a hoarse voice has been associated with some cases.

I'm not sure there's much you can do however unless you can get a private test. Just take precautions and take it as easy as possible over the next few days - sip lots of warm drinks with honey, early nights, etc.

Forgot to add. Try not to panic. Even if it is Covid, it sounds like both you and your mum have mild cases. Just indulge in self care, take things easy, and if at all possible perhaps self isolate at least until your mum's results are back (I appreciate it's not always easy for people to do this particularly without official NHS symptoms).

Thanks @SheepandCow I agree I think the best thing is to self isolate until my mum's results are back .

All of your symptoms are possible covid.

Dh had a very sore nose for a while and you could hear his hoarse voice for quite a while. His only other symptoms were the sweats during the night for two nights running, and a bit of a cough. He worked from home through it all, so he really didn't feel bad, just tired.

So yes, you could have it.

Jeremyironseverything · 05/10/2020 09:12

Oh and it upset my stomach too.

movingonup20 · 05/10/2020 09:13

Yes possible but far more likely one of the myriad of other viruses.

Sunshinespacecadet · 05/10/2020 09:18

Yes I’ve had the virus and developed a hoarse voice which lasted quite a while

A hoarse voice can be a symptom of acid reflux, I was referred to hospital under 2WW for suspected throat cancer with it, had the camera up my nose & down my throat, it was acid reflux splashing my vocal cords.
