People anxious about catching CV, are you equally worried about being diagnosed with cancer?

Or is that not something you really think about?

@mac12

My friend has cancer. Having chemo for it (yes, still being treated so no, we are not stopping all other treatments to just focus on COVID) But because we are now letting infections run rife in the community, she now has COVID despite living as quiet & careful a life as possible when you have young kids in school. She is now very unwell. Her chemo has had to stop. I haven’t read the full thread because I find it’s premise deeply goady & upsetting. COVID will kill a lot of cancer patients if we don’t get it under control - or are you also one of those people who thinks anyone with an underlying condition should just be written off? Wake up FFS.
I am so sorry for your friend. This is exactly why we all need to do what's asked of us, whatever our personal level of risk.

@Littlegoth

I’m not worried that I might catch cancer down the pub.

True you will not catch cancer at the pub but the consumption of alcohol at the pub will increase your chances of getting cancer.

Northernsoulgirl45 · 05/10/2020 11:48

Concerned about both but at least I can't pass cancer onto my ecv husband.

Northernsoulgirl45 · 05/10/2020 11:50

Sorry about your friend too mac.

Littlegoth · 05/10/2020 11:59

@1dayatatime you are right.

In the same way sugar, hair dye, painting, barbecue meat, working nights and pickles do.

And when science recommends I keep 2m away from these things to avoid catching cancer from them, I’ll make sure I do.

Exactly.

Why make a comparison with 'cancer' anyway; cancers have names, there are many types. There are also other, equally if not more, serious illnesses such as some of the neurological degenerative diseases.

You simply cannot compare one disease to another in this way and, quite honestly, do people spend their lives being afraid of something which cannot be avoided but may never happen?

We can do a lot to avoid catching and spreading coronavirus.

MotherOfDragonite · 05/10/2020 14:31

Well, it's totally different.

Cancer isn't contagious.

I’m more worried about Covid than other illnesses that are not infectious. I would like to have family around me when I die. I’m hoping my passing to be peaceful and for my loved ones to have a small warning of my death.

Covid would kick people out and I would also like to be there physically for others as well as having people around me when I leave this world.

Basically, I would not like to die off any infections disease. But the choice is not mine.
