People anxious about catching CV, are you equally worried about being diagnosed with cancer?

Or is that not something you really think about?

You don't 'catch' cancer, it isn't infectious. No, I do not worry about it. What's the point?

namechangefail2020 · 04/10/2020 20:32

You don't sound like a very nice person at all. Why can't people just mind their own fricking business and let people deal with this how they see fit! Cancer isn't contagious by the way, in case you didn't realise! I have some more harsh words for you and your attitude but I'll get told off by admin! So just imagine them!

Wimbledon11 · 04/10/2020 20:35

I worry more about being diagnosed with cancer or someone in my family than I am about catching covid

leafylife · 04/10/2020 20:36

I think most people worry about both, don't they? But there are different things that we can do to protect ourselves (to some extent) from each, so it's a different kind of worry.

As far as funding goes, I'd like funding for both of course. It seems a bit silly to say the money spent on COVID could have gone to cancer research, because it wasn't spare money that could have gone somewhere else, it was emergency funding. But of course it is a worry that treatments and screenings for cancer and other illnesses have been delayed because of COVID.

SylvanianFrenemies · 04/10/2020 20:37

Not really the same thing, is it? I try to live a healthy lifestyle but I'm not going to catch cancer from some twat who thinks their kid's birthday party is an essential activity. I am at high risk if I catch covid-19. I'm allowed to wish to avoid leaving my kids without a mother.

Galvantula · 04/10/2020 20:40

Seeing as it's not contagious, it's not really the same.

I would wager that more people are worried about continuing to spread it than catching it.

Marcellemouse · 04/10/2020 20:43

I think it is the current feeling that the only thing that matters now is CV. Cancelled mammograms, screenings. I'm a lot more worried about cancer now than before CV as I feel there's been a big step backwards.

I'm currently stopping smoking as I'm really worried about cancer however Covid is very much at the forefront of my mind at the moment as if I catch Covid there's a good chance I could die in the next couple of weeks. If I find i have cancer next week there's a better chance I'll still be alive next week to begin treatment.

Spied · 04/10/2020 20:45

Even if treatments are postponed ( which Im not agreeing with btw)

Fawnfour · 04/10/2020 20:46

How ridiculous to compare the two!!!!

FallenMadonnawiththeBadBoobies · 04/10/2020 20:47

I had a mammogram in August - just saying.

FallenMadonnawiththeBadBoobies · 04/10/2020 20:47

What us your real agenda OP - because it absolutely isn’t a concern about cancer.

FourTeaFallOut · 04/10/2020 20:47

So, let me get this right, you're of the opinion that everyone should agree that cancer is more of a worry because it is more of a worry and a risk to you - isn't that a little egotistical?

Marcellemouse · 04/10/2020 20:49

We are all at risk of both.

I'm far more likely to be able to get my yearly mammogram and MRI scans to check for recurrence if COVID rates are low. If you're worried about people getting cancer screenings, diagnoses and treatments, you should be concerned to keep COVID rates low, even factoring out any concern for COVID casualties.
Onmyown1 · 04/10/2020 20:51

I’m worried about catching Covid but not cancer as I already have it! Stage 4 cancer which makes me extremely clinically vulnerable. Comparing the 2 is ridiculous.

Marcellemouse · 04/10/2020 20:54

@FallenMadonnawiththeBadBoobies
I was imagining how many deaths we could have prevented had the sole focus and billions of pounds been on cancer for 6 months. Cancer research, educating people, scaring people, daily death from cancer/ cases of cancer announcements, enforcement of cancer prevention measures ( ban on smoking, illegal not to exercise, illegal to drink more than safe amounts).

OP posts:
DoctorYang · 04/10/2020 20:56

I also had a mammogram and MRI (checking for cancer) in August.

Marcellemouse · 04/10/2020 20:58

I'm glad you got scans. I was lucky enough to have one in February.

Marcellemouse · 04/10/2020 21:02

I'm sorry to everyone who has cancer at the moment I didnt mean to offend you. It's something very close to my heart at the moment and the thought of cancers being missed/untreated is just dreadful.

Inkpaperstars · 04/10/2020 21:02

I spent a lot of time in the past obsessively trying to avoid various viruses, some of which are incredibly widespread, precisely due to their role in the later development of cancer. Viruses and cancer are not two totally separate issues.

I would worry more about getting cancer than coronavirus, but then I may already have had covid and my main concern about that is if it will lead to something like Parkinson's.

I am just an equal opportunity worrier here Grin

FallenMadonnawiththeBadBoobies · 04/10/2020 21:03

No you weren’t. You were wanting people to think that worrying about the effects of Covid is ridiculous in comparison.

A heck of a lot of money and the time and effort of some fabulously talented professionals is spent on trying to defeat all types of cancer. There are plenty of publicity campaigns to teach us what we should and should not be doing.

Cancer is truly awful, but it won’t crash the economy or blight the lives of a whole generation of youngster. We all need to be pulling together to get Covid under control - not defeat it, as that is impossible - but contain it as much as we can. If we can do that, we can go back to providing care for those with cancer and other illnesses.

FallenMadonnawiththeBadBoobies · 04/10/2020 21:05

Okay, I posted before I saw your last post. So, i’m Sorry. I’m just sick to the back teeth of cancer being used as a justification for ignoring Covid restrictions.

Good luck and best wishes to all cancer sufferers and survivors.

cheninblanc · 04/10/2020 21:06

No because cancer isn't contagious and there are treatments

Tangledyarn · 04/10/2020 21:06

Yep worried about cancer, worried about covid. Take steps to mitigate against both..dont smoke, wear sunscreen, try and keep my weight down and wear a mask, dont mix in groups and wash my hands.
