Just to say that I'm looking forward to the day when coronavirus as a talk topic on mumsnet does not exist!
That's all.

Me too.

I was thinking about how interesting it would be to see the very first thread on coronavirus, and what most people thought about it!

HeyMacarona · 04/10/2020 17:10

I have thought this many times. I remember when swine flu was a topic and eventually removed.

halcyondays · 04/10/2020 17:12

Before it was a topic, I remember someone posted about being worried about flights coming in from Wuhan. Most people were unconcerned.

MarcelineMissouri · 04/10/2020 17:12

Omg me too! Along with when I don’t have to remember to carry a mask everywhere and people don’t treat each other like lepers any more!

Sunny360 · 04/10/2020 17:13

I always think about the first “worried about coronavirus” thread in January in AIBU... I was hooked to those threads.

RizzleDrizzle · 04/10/2020 17:15

Yep hopefully the day will come

And we can get back to our families, work, concerts sport life’s little pleasures

allaglow · 04/10/2020 17:16

Ah, swine flu.
Those were the days.

Oh yeah “catch it, kill it, bin it”

Some how we all pine for those adverts and the posters

It didn't first arrive here from Wuhan, though. Big first arrival was via the scout master who had a business trip to Singapore before hols at Alps chalet with British & Spanish resident friends.

Unless you think the virus arrived in UK back in December or October 2019 (some insist it did).

I've booked marked the first "worried" thread as it makes fascinating reading in hindsight
ivftake1 · 04/10/2020 17:30

I said I was worried and got completely dismissed!

I got hooked on the first worried about coronavirus in the AIBU topic. At the time I was relieved to find it as people in RL thought I was being crazy.

Spicegirls · 04/10/2020 18:30

Has anyone got a link to the first thread. I'd love to read it.

dontbelieveboris · 04/10/2020 18:40

A work colleague brought the most horrific cough cold virus back from Singapore in late October, it spread like crazy and a Lady who caught it from a colleagues family member actually passed away from pneumonia in November. When it officially arrived here I was exposed to someone who had it after visiting London and I didn't catch it, although everyone else this person was in contact with did. All before you could get tested though so we will never know if it was or not...
Spicegirls · 04/10/2020 18:41

Thank you

HesterShaw1 · 04/10/2020 18:49

Apparently there was a lot of pneumonia type deaths before Christmas. More than normal.

Back in January a family friend died. He went into the QMC in Nottingham for a heart operation, which went successfully. He was sent home, and a week later he died of a sudden pneumonia. They're saying now it was probably Covid.

All anecdotal of course.

I agree OP, I can't wait until there is no need for this board.

It's the little things I am looking forward to.

middleager · 04/10/2020 18:57

I used to follow those threads and the snippets of news that would come through from 1 or 2 prominent contributors.

There'd be complaints about CV threads in Chat or AIBU.

My son was on a school ski trip in Feb half term when the news was breaking about various provinces being put into 'lockdown' I was so anxious he wouldn't get home as those areas were locked down on the day of his flight home.

TheSeedsOfADream · 04/10/2020 19:56

I'm on those first threads under a different name.

TheSeedsOfADream · 04/10/2020 20:00

Rereading that thread it seems like a decade ago.

Prominent deniers are still denying. Others have disappeared. Also a couple of the real (and only tbf) posters I'd consider scaremongerers. Posting with glee every new case and death.

MushMonster · 04/10/2020 20:09

I do believe that covid made it to Uk in October-Dec, and surely to many other countries so by the time they identified it it was already roaming free...
Looking forward to the day we get a cure and vaccine. I will keep the masks just in case.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 04/10/2020 20:16

Reading the first 'Worried' thread now and it's fascinating.

What worries me is that one day there will be a thread titled, 'Worried about these reports of the dead reanimating'. Lots of responses like, 'Get a grip, it's no worse than the flu'. Then six months later it'll be, 'I feel sorry for your DC if you think that's the best way to cauterise a bite wound Angry'

Mindymomo · 04/10/2020 20:24

When I wake up each morning I forget the situation we are all in and think it will be great when the time arrives when I can wake up and we are through this awful pandemic and get back to enjoying our lives.
