Confusing covid app notification

This morning I've woken up to a notification from the app saying someone I was near has tested positive. No mention of close contact etc. App still green and tracking.

I take it this means no more than I walked past someone who now has it and I don't need to isolate? Is this right? I didn't know it did this.

I've also had this! From what I can gather online, it means you've potentially been near someone but theyre still trying to identify whether the contact was close enough to warrant you isolating, so unless you get another notification telling you specifically to isolate and you can see this info in the app, you don't need to do anything.

I'm sorry, I don't know, but it sounds like it.

Can you tell if it's 'active' without tapping on the App?

Tomatoesneedtoripen · 04/10/2020 07:34

i didnt realise until yesterday you were meant to tap in to places you visited.
are these generally restaurants?

Tomatoesneedtoripen · 04/10/2020 07:35

i dont think it means walking passed someone,

bravefox · 04/10/2020 07:36

I had this! When you go back to the app all seems fine and there's no record to show you ever had the notification.

I think it's a bug.

Bravefox that's exactly what happened. I live in a high risk area so it doesn't surprise me but I keep my distance, I keep moving and avoid queues etc so it's highly unlikely I'm going to meet the criteria.

@Tomatoesneedtoripen

M & S has QR codes for you to scan.

PeaceAndHarmoneeee · 04/10/2020 07:57

I've also had this alert pop up but on going into the app itself there's nothing there.

It's exactly like the link above, if we had to isolate you would see it in the app.

Tomatoesneedtoripen · 04/10/2020 08:03

thank you @Itsabeautifuldayheyhey

If there’s nothing within the app itself you don’t need to do anything. The pop up shows that it’s working, but is a bug in the sense that it shouldn’t be giving you the message and I believe it’s being worked on.

I also received this first thing this morning and was really frustrated that I only glanced at it before it disappeared. My son lives with his girlfriend and 4 other housemates and 5 of them have had positive results over the last 3 days. My son had a test today so is awaiting results. I saw my son and his girlfriend on Wednesday evening but I sat in the car and chatted to them for 20 minutes as they stood outside in the rain at the end of the garden path. I assume that I have had the notification because of my 'close contact' with them as I haven't really been anywhere else. My son has had the same notification 5 times because he lives with these people, which makes sense. But I would have thought that now his housemates have all inputted their positive result into the app, my son should have received a more significant NHS notification telling him to self isolate but he hasn't had one!? Does anyone know why?! Is it just a delay? Obviously he's self isolating anyway as he's in a household with positive cases. None of them have any symptoms.
