Question for people in local lockdown

Arcadia · 04/10/2020 04:22

Can I ask if children's sport activities are still happening? I know it sounds trivial, but my daughter being able to do her dance classes is about the only thing making me happy at the moment. Also I need to decide about paying for the next half term.
I am in an 'amber alert' city, with large amount of students so we are at risk of further restrictions soon I think.

Local lock down here and football clubs and rugby clubs still operating, not sure about dance. Sorry

DirtyBlonde · 04/10/2020 05:58

Local lockdowns vary, as each region can set slightly different rules (for example, people have been recalled to shielding in some but not all)

So I don't think it's going to be possible to get the certainty you want.

If you can comfortably afford it, pay anyhow. You may well get (some/all) classes, and you're helping keep the provider in business. And of course you get to keep her place.

You could ask what COVID interruption policy the dance school has

Shieldingending · 04/10/2020 05:59

My DD's dance school is still open (area with restrictions)

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 04/10/2020 06:29

Scotland and yes.

So kids go to school together, attend dancing, could have a coffee with one person after but can’t go for a play date indoors at a house.

(Scotland likes to increase its poverty gap through sheer stupidity - it’s Nicola’s clear aim)

LatteLover12 · 04/10/2020 06:30

North East here & yes, the football and swimming that we attend add still happening.

grandmasterstitch · 04/10/2020 07:23

I'm in the north east too and dance classes are still happening

CottonSock · 04/10/2020 07:24

Wales here, still have drama and swimming. Not girl guiding activities in person

Swishswish26 · 04/10/2020 07:24

West Yorkshire here and dancing and swimming are still going ahead.

Wherearefoxssocks · 04/10/2020 07:25

I think that as long as any group is "covid secure" it's fine. All groups I know of (in Merseyside) are still running

Pinkfluffyunicornsdancing · 04/10/2020 07:36

North East here. Dancing classes and drama groups started back up before local lockdown and have kept going. Brownies/rainbows/council run gymnastics/council run swimming were due to start again in October, and are remaining closed instead.

Jrobhatch29 · 04/10/2020 07:42

Yes North East and my son is still going to football

PotteringAlong · 04/10/2020 07:45

North east here too - no council swimming. Not started yet and not likely to any time soon. I don’t know about dance but karate, which I assume is similar as it’s in a hall, is still on but no spectators so you have to drop and leave .

Autumnleaves200 · 04/10/2020 07:59

I think my local dance school is still open. There seemed to be a queue of parents waiting to do pick ups when I drove past (north west)

Mydarlingsleepthief · 04/10/2020 08:00

Yes all dance and gymnastics still on despite being in local lockdown

Redcrayons · 04/10/2020 08:03

NW and yes. All children’s indoor activities are still on.

Langsdestiny · 04/10/2020 08:05

NE football still on, only one person from family allowed to spectator. All spectators must wear masks.

ScarMatty · 04/10/2020 09:00

NE and yes, all still open

Arcadia · 04/10/2020 10:05

Thanks all for the replies.
@DirtyBlonde you're right, I should just go ahead and book. The lessons will go online rather than getting a refund if they can't go ahead, but I should support them.
They did an excellent summer course that really reignited my daughter's love of dance, and they are doing more than enough to comply with all the measures I think (fixed participants in small groups, temperature checks, hand washing, distancing etc).
Surprised to hear swimming is ongoing pretty much everywhere.

I'm in GM, some are but not all.

HarrietOh · 04/10/2020 10:42

There are no local lockdowns in England AFAIK but I’m in an area of extra restrictions and they’re still happening.

Gymmummy1234 · 05/10/2020 11:14

Ours are still open (friends based in leisure centre and school hall isn't) but our cases are still going up despite having restrictions. I read that a tier system is coming in so if it does then I think our area will go to the next tier soon which mentioned no socialising including hobbies/sport etc.
I'll have one upset competitive gymnast and a sad little dancer. Although during lockdown both were able to do the activities via zoom.

Frazzled2207 · 05/10/2020 15:42

I work in the industry and am in Greater Manchester. Yes broadly but it's difficult because the venues we hire out are making things difficult for us (for good reasons eg cleaning). In normal times we run after school activity clubs (i.e. at schools) and most schools don't want us but stuff that happens independently of schools is carrying on with some rules. Eg for swimming they are in smaller groups with no changing facilities (strip off by the side of the pool which is actually better when you're 5)

Arcadia · 05/10/2020 19:28

Thanks @Frazzled2207. I hope you manage to get through this tough period.
@Gymmummy1234 fingers crossed they won't stop for your DC, but it's hard knowing they might have that disappointment.
It's small in the scheme of things but these activities I took for granted have become focal points of the week and really cheer my DD up.

South Wales local lockdown here and my son's football is still going on BUT it is outside (unsure if that makes a difference)

Ginogineli · 05/10/2020 19:38

Yes Liverpool and all on

Gov rules on indoor apply to adults only
