Coronavirus isolation rules

Hoping that someone can help us work this out so no rules are broken. Dd is a University fresher living in a self catered flat in University halls. There are 7 of them living in the flat. 1st flatmate started with symptons on Monday and was tested the same day and got a positive result on Tuesday. All 7 isolated from Monday but on Tuesday, 5 of the other 6 developed symptoms and have since tested positive. Everyone seems to have a different take on when they have to isolate until. It feels like one of those horrible maths exam questions but they want to make sure that they're doing the right thing.

Those who tested positive is 10 days from onset of symptoms.

Those who have not got symptoms it is 14 days from the last person who tested positive became symptomatic.

As above!

Interesting to compare that advice with the leaflet that went out with the Boris letter in March. That said:

Person A develops symptoms triggering 14 day isolation for the 4 people in their household.
If on day 8 A has no more symptoms, they come out of isolation.
Meanwhile Person B develops symptoms on day 3 and leaves isolation on day 10.

Poor C is still in isolation despite having no symptoms whatever.

However, all is not lost for C, because they come out of isolation on day 15, regardless of the fact that person D developed symptoms on day 13.

It does look as if we've learnt something in the last 6 months.

This from the government suggests they don't restart isolation.

Days they can leave the the house:

Original ill person - next Thursday (8th)
Symptomatic on Tuesday - next Friday (9th)
Well person - following Monday (12th), unless they get symptoms and test positive themself, then it is 10 days from their symptoms starting
