People ignoring the rules - so frustrated!

We are on holiday at the moment staying in a lovely village pub. Yesterday we were enjoying a drink there which was spoilt by a party of people who weren't all wearing masks when not seated at a table.

They were in a separate room (no door just a walk through) but we could see them through a window. They wore masks when going to the toilet but not when they were all chatting around different tables.

We complained only to be told they had just attended a funeral. I don't think covid cares! This has really put a dampner on our holiday. Why do people think the rules don't apply to them?

I agree people need to follow the rules.

However I wouldn’t have contemplated a holiday or going to a pub during a pandemic as not worth the risk of catching it or helping the spread. It can last in the air for hours so whether seated or standing it can spread.

Spied · 03/10/2020 11:16

I don't think you can really complain.
Your hardly being very careful yourself in
Not a chance I would go on holiday, staying in a pub during these times.

TheGreatWave · 03/10/2020 11:36

I don't really think you can take the moral high ground here either as you were staying away from home. I certainly don't think they were doing anything bad enough to spoil your evening.

Abraid2 · 03/10/2020 11:38

They were in a separate room from you?

Tootletum · 03/10/2020 11:38

Yeah yeah whatever. You're morally superior because you're following a bunch of rules the government have made up as they went along.

Awarethebear · 03/10/2020 11:41

@Tootletum I completely agree with you.

Remmy123 · 03/10/2020 11:41

They were in a seperate room? Don't let it ruin your holiday bit OTT?

Deux · 03/10/2020 11:45

Good grief. They weren’t close to you, wearing masks when moving through the pub.

How exactly did you want them to behave at a wake? You don’t have to wear masks at a table so your gripe is they were standing, not sitting?

PhilCornwall1 · 03/10/2020 11:47

I don't think covid cares!

Why the hell do people talk about this bloody virus as if it's human?

Frazzled13 · 03/10/2020 11:48

Is it a rule to wear masks when not seated at a restaurant? That’s a genuine question, I try to follow the rules, but hadn’t actually heard that.

England it is. Only recently.
Gobacktothe90s · 03/10/2020 11:52

I thought you didn't have to wear a mask when seated at a pub as you drinking or eating?

Velvian · 03/10/2020 12:02

I think we are at a stage where most people are breaking the rules, myself included. I had my parents over for dinner last night and we are a family of 5, albeit in an area with very low cases.

We're they more than 6? I think the pub have a responsibility to make sure bookings are 6 or less, even on different tables. The mask wearing, I thought you only had to wear one walking through to your table or to the loo, so I've missed that development too.

WinifredSanderson · 03/10/2020 12:08

They were at a wake. For all you know they lost someone to
Covid. But shockingly people die of countless other things every single day. You do you. I'm at a point where I'm doing what best suits me and my family instead of fretting over some made up on the spot change the goalposts every other week bullshit churned out by the government.

swimlyn · 03/10/2020 12:25

The people who insist on flouting the rules are extending this wretched time ad infinitum.

We can look forward to at least another year of this madness, probably more.

Unfortunately all you can do is be the sensible ones and take precautions.

Don’t hang around in negligent establishments like this.

lughnasadh · 03/10/2020 12:32

Your just making shit up, aren't you OP?

For the full effect you need to include someone (preferably one of the bereaved) screaming at you, and then a bunch of bystanders giving you a round of applause.

lughnasadh · 03/10/2020 12:35

You're Grin

My bad.

LittleMissLockdown · 03/10/2020 12:40

Even if everyone followed these arbitrary rules to the letter the virus will still be here this time next year. It's not magically going to disappear even if every rule is followed witu exacting precision by everyone.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 03/10/2020 12:43

So you're annoyed that they were not sitting down? So because they were standing next to each other but not sitting next to each other, they should have been wearing masks?

vodkaredbullgirl · 03/10/2020 12:53
Biscuit
Okaro · 03/10/2020 12:55

You are on holiday and in a pub! Hmm if the people you saw were at a funeral then they are most probably local where as you have travelled to another area for your holiday, we have been told many times not to travel unless we have to.
Many people have decided not to even take the risk of going on holiday! We have missed all our holidays and weekend breaks this year to try and help stop the risk to us and others. I have worked all the way through the lockdown harder then ever so believe me I could do with the break.

DownThePlath · 03/10/2020 12:58

A dampener on your holiday? Hilarious.

Scabber · 03/10/2020 13:07

Just look after yourself and those under your care. Enjoy your holiday and dont waste time worrying or complaining about what people in another room are doing.

vodkaredbullgirl · 03/10/2020 13:10

Did you stay or leave when it happened????

LegArmpits · 03/10/2020 14:19

Op I'm embarrassed for you.
