Covid track and trace.

Last week I downloaded the NHS covid app. On Tuesday I went to the hairdressers and they had the QR code up.
Yesterday I went for my flu vac at my local chemist there isn't one, when I asked the pharmacist he said it's not up and running yet.
Today I have been to the supermarket and again no QR code.
My DD works in a pub and they have it.

How can it track and trace if it's only in pubs/hairdressers.

It’s not only in pubs and hairdressers, but business owners need to arrange to get the code and get it printed etc. So I guess not everyone will have been very efficient at doing it. My gym for example has the NHS app code

Is it not test and trace? You need the post office for track and trace!

Glad we don't need to do all that with the Scottish app

It is for
*hospitality services, including pubs, bars, restaurants and cafés

tourism and leisure services, including hotels, museums, cinemas and amusement arcades

close contact services, including hairdressers, barbershops and tailors (including mobile businesses)

facilities provided by Local Authorities, including community centres, libraries and village halls*

Most other places you will not be spending an extended period and supermarkets/shops would be pointless.

I've got a question, hope you don't mind op- I thought the app worked on my phone being near other people's phones. Why would I need to scan a QR code as well?

It does work off your phone, but 'phone to phone' not your location.

QR code automatically registers your presence in a venue without having to use pen & paper, then they can inform people who don't have the app that someone that was there the same time as them has tested positive.

The business owner has to download, it took about 30 minutes to register our church. The guidance was to register if you are a business where members of the public spend 15 mins or more in a single location - so obviously shops don't fall into this category.

But surely you can be in a supermarket for more than 15 minutes so why haven't they got the QR code.

Are you likely to be in the company of 1 person for the whole 15 minutes in a supermarket? In a pub your table could be situated close to a person/people and you sat there for more than 15 minutes, similar in a hairdressers, but in a supermarket you are moving and highly unlikely to remain next to one person for your whole shopping experience.
