New PHE surveillance report released today. On Tuesdays briefing they said the figures for school aged children were not rising and had a graph showing only positivity rates and this showed older teens were raising substantially. Today I would have expected this to be reflected in the figures for college and universities, but they have hardly moved. What is going on here? I appreciate some universities have had quite large outbreaks, is that enough to explain Tuesdays positivity graph?

Regarding the first graph, cases have risen for core uni age. Regarding the last, there are fewer universities than primary schools, but they contain an awful lot more people.

I would assume it’s just because we are looking at numbers of institutions rather than number of cases of six primary schools have a case each then that is six institutions but if Manchester uni has 127 cases that is only one institution so realistically there will always be more cases in primary schools since there are a lot more of them than unis. It comes up with care homes too covid got into a third of care home but people still say it’s more schools, because the numbers of schools effected is bigger although the percentage of total school effected is smaller.

It’s the totally number of cases in each institution you need and they don’t give that.
