What will you do for Halloween?

DC normally go in a large group house to house knocking on doors that have a pumpkin lantern lit. This doesn't look possible now. What are you going to do instead to keep your DC happy?

Also, what will you do when a large group of children come knocking on your door? Giving them a bucket of sweets to choose from looks out too.

Tbf most kids shouldn't be knocking on doors. I won't be opening mine.
We're just doing some activities in the day and having a little Halloween party with DC snacks food etc, hocus pocus.

Ickabog · 02/10/2020 09:07

I would be very surprised to find any child knocking at my door this year, let alone a large group of them. Most people round here are doing the pumpkin trail.

Toastycornflakes · 02/10/2020 09:11

We’re in local lockdown in north wales so I doubt there will be kids knocking. My estate is usually like we’re in America at Halloween - it has a fantastic atmosphere with lots of decorated houses and kids only ever go to houses with pumpkins so I don’t think anyone would try and knock if we didn’t put a pumpkin out.

I’m going to get my kids a ghost piñata and do a little Halloween sweet hunt. Am also going to play Halloween bingo and pin the nose on the pumpkin and then watch a spooky film with popcorn.

Most people I know are doing the pumpkin trail instead of trick or treating which is what we will do.

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 02/10/2020 09:12

We're going to do some Halloween baking and maybe watch a kid-appropriate 'scary' movie.

To be fair I fucking hate and detest guising so I'm thrilled. I'd like to do nothing but y'know (gestures vaguely towards the children).

PolloDePrimavera · 02/10/2020 09:13

We were going to do trick or treating of the houses in my DS's bubble. We are in über Lockdown currently.

winetime89 · 02/10/2020 09:22

we've got a theme park booked for the day time with Halloween activities there and at night time we will go on a haunted walk in our local woods, take sweets, head torches and head down to the park and let them have a play and tell ghost stories. it's meant to be a full moon too! 👻

amethyst123 · 02/10/2020 09:23

Pumpkin trail around here everyone puts a picture off a pumkin in their window which the kids count. Were also doing a treasure hunt around the house to find sweets and chocolates so the kids don't really miss out and maybe some party food and spooky music have a mini disco. To be fair I hate trick or treating with them anyway feels like were knocking on peoples doors begging.

Probably hold a fancy dress rave with 100-200 others in the cramped baswment of a disused warehouse.

We don't have children yet BUT i am hoping we still get some trick or treaters coming round, I'm sanitising the sweet wrappers and will hand them out with tongs. That aside, hubby and i love halloween so we decorate the house and i have lots of horror movies lined up on my list on netflix- I am doing halloween themed meals/snacks too! (I am bit crazy haha)

Camomila · 02/10/2020 09:54

We might go to the Lego Land halloween event on Inset day (so hopefully quiet as it's the week before half term starts).

Or (much cheaper) go do the Gruffalo trail at Wakehurst.

frozendaisy · 02/10/2020 10:00

I'll buy them a bunch of sweets and watch Coraline or similar.

RedskyAtnight · 02/10/2020 10:06

We won't be opening the door if anyone is stupid enough to come trick or treating. Large number of people interacting with people they don't normally come into contact with, what could possibly go wrong!?

Figgygal · 02/10/2020 10:11

Have bought some Halloween crafts from Baker Ross which will do in the afternoon

have got an idea for a trail/treasure hunt round the house/garden that they can dress up for if they want To

Maybe watch the new Addams family movie get some Halloween baked goods

Not going trick or treating though

blue25 · 02/10/2020 10:14

No one should be knocking on doors this Halloween! Surely no one is planning this? I won’t be answering the door.

I’m sure your kids will cope without trick or treating for one year.

ifiwasascent · 02/10/2020 10:15

We've just moved from a basement flat to a street where there are loads of kids. I've brought loads of wrapped sweets, we're not in a lockdown so hoping kids will still come 🙏🏽

mac12 · 02/10/2020 10:15

I am a proper Halloween grinch, even as a kid I hated Halloween. This is great, no pressure to buy overpriced plastic & nylon tat & vats of haribos. Will probably take kids on nighttime nature walk with torches & then watch a spooky but not too scary kids film - any good suggestions (youngest is 8)?

RaininSummer · 02/10/2020 10:17

Our road are putting pumpkins and pictures in windows over half term week so parents can do a pumpkin hunt and give the children a sweet themselves for every one they findo.

NameChange84 · 02/10/2020 10:18

Two of us had to Shield so I’m afraid we wouldn’t open the door to groups of strangers and be getting close enough to hand out sweets, children or not especially given that children are mixing in such large groups and we are doing everything we can to minimise our risk. Safety first.

LethargicLumpOfLockdownLard · 02/10/2020 10:18

Agreed with a large group of school parents to all trick or treat each other's houses. Hand sanitiser, we're all outdoors. We're in a low transmission area so we don't see it as risky.

CountessFrog · 02/10/2020 10:20

I’ve hired staff to hand out ‘fiendish’ fancies with a five foot set of tongs. They will be in full hazmat gear and will supply a certificate proving they’ve never been to Bolton.

Or I might get a grip.

I know we've never met but can I attend along with all my "social bubbles" 😉
CountFosco · 02/10/2020 10:24

We'll go traditional. Neepie lanterns, dookin' fores and treacle scones. Excellent fun.
