What will you do for Halloween?

DC normally go in a large group house to house knocking on doors that have a pumpkin lantern lit. This doesn't look possible now. What are you going to do instead to keep your DC happy?

Also, what will you do when a large group of children come knocking on your door? Giving them a bucket of sweets to choose from looks out too.

Bloody hell - is this thread a wind up? Of course kids shouldn’t be out trick and treating this year. Parts of the country are in lockdown.

I think large groups of kids will be ‘bollocked’ as being irresponsible

Stay home and have fun instead.

We are very rural so there will be no trick or treaters here which is good because I'd not be answering the door to them this year anyway.

We will have a halloweenish tea and watch some scaryish movies. We also have a dead, spooky tree down on the shore so I think we'll go down there at dusk and tell stories by torchlight and toast marshmallows.

Looks like nothing as we’re in a local lockdown area. DS is too old to be fobbed off with a pumpkin walk and we can’t even have a little party with his cousins now. I’m pretty gutted TBH.

GreatBigBeautifulTommorow · 03/10/2020 19:17

@FrangipaniBlue oh no Sad Have you cancelled or moved the holiday?
I hope you get to go eventually, it’s amazing!
Especially HHN....amazing but terrifying Grin

We go most years, really sad to not be going this year. I’m off work now doing not much whilst I should’ve been there.

frozendaisy · 03/10/2020 20:12

Going to buy a stack of sweets for them and watch Gremlins. Not fussed about Halloween.

DH has just agreed to get some garden fireworks as bonfire night is a different matter, s'mores on the fire, few fireworks, sparklers.

Quizeerascal · 03/10/2020 22:26

I never liked Halloween, one of the few perks of 2020 may be its cancellation Grin

FrangipaniBlue · 03/10/2020 23:51

@GreatBigBeautifulTommorow moved to same time next year and keeping everything crossed lol

Porcupineinwaiting · 04/10/2020 00:17

I've always liked Halloween - but this year we'll be celebrating quietly at home.

Is it just going to be for one year? This seems to never end

Bickles · 30/10/2020 11:33

So far we’ve done a day out to a local attraction and a farm, both with pumpkin picking. Pumpkin carving, decorating the house. We watched Haunted Mansion on Disney plus yesterday, planning another spooky film today.
Tomorrow we’re doing a Halloween sweet hunt with clues around the house in the morning, a wizard theme train ride, Halloween themed tea (hot dogs/ fingers) and a zoom Halloween party. DH and I have costumes as well as DS.
He’s really excited even though it’s nothing like usual, really because we’re making an effort.

Whirlwind14 · 30/10/2020 11:36

I’m just prepping a Halloween garden hunt for my two and their two cousins. We’re lucky to have some ‘spooky’ woods so hopefully it’ll keep them entertained and feel they haven’t missed out. It’s also outside too which makes me feel happier...

Just prepping it for them and I feel a little more upbeat and ‘normal’ than usual. God I hate this cloud that’s constantly over us...

DavetheCat2001 · 30/10/2020 11:45

Weather is meant to be shite tomorrow

AliceMcK · 30/10/2020 11:49

We’ve taped sweets to kebab sticks and will put them in the garden with a sign for those who still choose to go trick or treating. The DCs loved doing it. As a family though we will just stay home and have a few party games. If the weather is ok, we might go round looking at the decorations in the area.

Firefliess · 30/10/2020 11:54

We're carving pumpkins and putting some (individually wrapped) sweets out on the garden wall for them to help themselves to. I think it's possible they'll get scooped up by the first group who arrive but also expect we'll have less than unusual coming. Normally we get around 20-30 groups of trick or treaters and give out over 100 sweets as we're in an area where it's very popular.

StormBaby · 30/10/2020 11:56

We are doing a gross slimy lucky dip which I’m sure they’ll love, apple bobbing, scaryish movies, and a buffet dinner with loads of sweets. Doing pumpkins today and some Halloween cupcakes with my stepdaughter. We normally all dress up and go out trick or treating. We were going to do a party this year Sad

Mummyoply · 30/10/2020 12:37

I'm doing a Halloween hunt in the house/garden in the dark with a torch for my DS. A bit like a creepy Easter egg hunt but with Halloween sweets rather than eggs.

We have carved pumpkins and will have a Halloween 'party' just the household with songs and the usual Halloween supper of burgers, hot dogs and mushy peas with mint sauce!

For the Visitors we will decorate the outside of our garden wall and put up a sign to direct trick or treaters to the individually wrapped sweets I'll leave out - along with some anti-bac wipes and a bin! Our gate will be locked so no visitors to the house, but we do have a gate camera so might play some spooky music or shout boo if we get any visitors! Grin

YouSetTheTone · 30/10/2020 16:24

Agreed with 3 other parents locally that we’d all do a reciprocal trick or treat. All being let into gardens and socially distancing outside. Sweets given in pre-packed sweetie bags. No prolonged contact - just ‘ooooh don’t you look scary, wow great pumpkins! Byeee!’ These kids all go to the same school and we’re in a low case area.
Each ‘set’ of parents/ kids will arrive separately. I really can’t see any problems with this. Especially as all the kids will be wearing Halloween masks too! Halloween Smile
