What will you do for Halloween?

DC normally go in a large group house to house knocking on doors that have a pumpkin lantern lit. This doesn't look possible now. What are you going to do instead to keep your DC happy?

Also, what will you do when a large group of children come knocking on your door? Giving them a bucket of sweets to choose from looks out too.

No children so probably watching Rocky Horror with some Halloween inspired drinks/snacks!

LadyWithTheNeonSparklers · 02/10/2020 10:33

We're going to do some Halloween baking and maybe watch a kid-appropriate 'scary' movie.

This and carving pumkin is what we usually do - this year we now have a fire pit - so might be in back garden with toasting folks - depending on weather.

People are talking about putting bowls of sweets outside doors - so no knocking required - though I image the door to door stuff could be done fairly easily with social distancing.

stayathomer · 02/10/2020 10:33

Going to do as many Halloween games as possible for sweets, decorate the house and me and dh are dressing up too then going to watch a Halloween movie (thinking Hocus Pocus). In the country so nobody about to trick or treat though will have a few prepared, sanitised and quarantined bags made up just in case

WinifredSanderson · 02/10/2020 10:51

We're doing what we always do. Visit the pick your own pumpkin patch, and having a party for my DC - 6 of us in total plus exh as kids of separated parents are allowed to mix with them. Finish the night with a scary movie and spooky stories.

Danniotley · 02/10/2020 10:59

I am going to do this so if we have any callers they can help themselves

I was thinking of doing the usual pumpkin decorations and leave some sweets outside the house in a bowl but would that mean some big kids steal them all?

They would be gone in no time in our area. And it would be the small kids as well as the big kids that took them.

Won’t bother dressing the kids up in scary costumes. They can just walk around coughing.

We will have pizza, movie and Halloween snacks. We usually get a lot of trick or treaters but won’t be answering the door sadly this year as seems to much of a risk. May leave something outside if I can find a way of ensuring they only touch what they take.

girlicorne · 02/10/2020 17:27

Providing we still can we are going to Alton Towers. The kids won’t be upset missing trick or treating, it will be an awesome day and we won’t be home til 11pm so we will miss any door knocking. If it has to close we ll just get lots of nice food and watch some Halloween movies.

WankPuffins · 02/10/2020 17:31

Halloween party, just us. I love Halloween, this will be the first time since Ds aged 18 was a baby that we’ve not been trick or treating! It’s the baby’s first Halloween so my 6 year old is super excited.

If restrictions allow, Dh will go and stay at his mums for the weekend my friend and her Ds will come and stay to make it more fun for Dd (taking us to 6 in the house with Dh gone).

Bwlch · 02/10/2020 17:38

dookin for apples

You could float the apples in a barrel of antibacterial hand wash.

GlendaSugarbeanIsJudgingYou · 02/10/2020 17:42

2 DS's, DH, and I are going to have a pumpkin carving competition (cat picks the winner). Then we will be dressing up and having a party with lots of treats and dancing.

DS1 is 13 this year so once DS2 goes to bed the 3 of us are going to snuggle up and watch a "scary" film.

Positive cases and hospital admissions are through the roof in our area so we won't be going around the doors or giving out sweets this year.

FromTheAshes · 02/10/2020 18:06

I'm decorating the hell out of the front garden like I always do, and will be pegging out pre-bagged sweets on a 'washing line' for anyone who wants to help themselves.

MrsJonesAndMe · 02/10/2020 19:28

We will carve pumpkins, do a bit of themed baking and watch something a bit scary.

HeIenaDove · 02/10/2020 21:24

Maybe this is why Poundland think there may be a market for their ouija boards as people are staying in.

HeIenaDove · 02/10/2020 21:27

I will be watching something that has Peter Cushing in it.

FrangipaniBlue · 02/10/2020 21:49

Sitting with my arms folded and bottom lip pooched out channelling my inner Verucca Salt because we should've been at Universals Halloween Horror Nights in Florida SadAngry

Normandy144 · 02/10/2020 22:36

I'm going to sit outside and put sweets in pre packaged bags on a table for them to take. No bowl to rummage through and no need to knock on my door. It can all be done safely and socially distanced. My DH will take the kids out to visit local houses as normal, but we will only visit if decorated and will take precautions etc. As far as I am aware you're still allowed to go out in groups of 6 I think, so we will be within the rules.

GreatBigBeautifulTommorow · 03/10/2020 09:25

@FrangipaniBlue us too!! I’ll join you on the sulking bench SadAngry
We love HHN and missed out on the ghostbusters house last year as we went in December.
Fingers crossed for next year Flowers

KitKatastrophe · 03/10/2020 11:18

I've got a discount code for baker ross so I thought I might make some little craft packs for DDs friends (they're 3) and drop them round. We will go and pick a pumpkin at the pumpkin patch locally and carve it at home to put in the window. I'll probably put a small bowl of sweets on the doorstep in case anyone does come by.

FrangipaniBlue · 03/10/2020 18:38

@GreatBigBeautifulTommorow it would've been our first time, we were supposed to be staying at Universal that whole week, been planned for almost 3 years and I'm gutted 😭😭😭

ilovebagpuss · 03/10/2020 18:57

If people aren’t able to go out but want something to do with younger children I always did a spooky treasure trail. Got lots of cheap props like a spider, bag, gory hand etc and wrote clues between the items. Always ended in digging up a box full of goodies to share out.
In recent years I even set up horrible challenges like sticking your hand in a box to get the clue and filling it with goop. Lots of screaming and garden fun.
I did it for a party once the little girls spent half an hour screaming Grin I mean I think they enjoyed it!
