An interesting development.
Trump and Melania both positive.
I have no love for the man but I wish him and his wife a good recovery.

I wish everyone with a positive test a good recovery, including people I don't like.

Not clear if he's symptomatic (he was tested as a contact)

Or what it means for the election if he is unwell (presumably VP steps in if he cannot carry out presidential duties, but that can't apply to campaigning)

MRex · 02/10/2020 06:38

Has anyone injected him with disinfectant yet for a clean? And brought light into the body?

speakout · 02/10/2020 06:44

A huge blow to his campaign- and presumably many of the campaign staff will now have to self isolate- they have been in very close proximity with him, in helicopters, cars etc.

Well the team might have been in contact with the aide who was the first case in this workplace, and perhaps others have tested positive too?

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 02/10/2020 06:50

Biden was pretty close to him for an extended period just a few days ago...

RoseAndRose · 02/10/2020 06:52

If both candidates come down with it, what then happens to the election?

MRex · 02/10/2020 06:56

@RoseAndRose - if illness forced either to step down then VPs step up. I like Kamala Harris, she would be good. Mike Pence is better than Trump.

ThousandsAreSailing · 02/10/2020 07:02

There will surely be a lot of people at risk due to the way he expels hot air

CovidStoleTheRainbow · 02/10/2020 08:54

What remarkable timing his positive tests have....

DennisTMenace · 02/10/2020 08:59

He doesn't seem to be having symptoms., or at least not particularly ill if he does. All I see this doing is fuelling the conspiracy theorists and Qanon even more. Plus going into trade negotiations post brexit he will be lording it up because Boris was seriously ill and his super strength kept it at bay.

MRex · 02/10/2020 09:08

The average time for most people to get symptoms is 3-5 days following exposure. They could have been exposed anytime in preceeding days, given they've both tested positive that suggests they are likely to get symptoms in the next couple of days, if they aren't asymptomatic.

AnguaResurgam · 02/10/2020 09:42

I think it will be impossible to keep his state of health confidential - there really will be too many people who know to keep it leak proof, and if he requires hospital at any point it will be very obvious.

It's the middle of the night in Washington right now, so there probably won't be any updates for at least 8 hours and possibly a bit longer.

Typical time from infection to symptoms is 5-6 days (but can be both shorter or longer) and then typical time from symptoms starting to becoming severe enough for hospital about a week.

I've just researched more about Mike Pence. Seems extremely homophobic, medium-level misogynistic, the type of "Christian" who's against abortion and unfussed about rape. He's not mad like Trump, but from a policy perspective he looks a bit like he'd fit in ok in the Handmaid's Tale. I don't really understand how the generally decent USAnians end up with these people in such powerful positions.

Stellaris22 · 02/10/2020 10:57

Excellent timing .......
