Travelling from Poland

We've just been informed that DHs mum has booked flights from Poland to here in the UK for his birthday weekend in November as a surprise.

Obviously Poland have now been taken off the exemption list and everyone coming from Poland to UK is now required to self isolate for 14 days.

We have been pretty much isolated apart from shopping since March so we do not have a bubble or anything. It's just the 3 of us.

My question is, would she be able to fly back after 3 days or will she be stuck here for 14 days?
I don't think she will be eligible for a refund for the flights.

She should be self isolating for the whole period, sorry. On her return flight she would be going to the airport, through security and sitting on a plane with others who have been on the UK where that isn't a requirement (yet!), so if she did have CV she's potentially spread it at that point. It's annoying but there it is. Maybe Poland will be off the list again by then. You'd only need the flight back - is that affordable?

I think that would depend on Poland’s rules not ours

Thanks for your reply Tickly.

I've just found this -
"If you’re travelling to the UK for less than 14 days, you will be expected to self-isolate for the length of your stay, but you can travel directly to your place of departure."

The rules are so confusing, it's hard to get my head around it all.

At this moment in time you don't have to quarantine in Poland when travelling from the UK. Of course that can change at any point.

Yes, she can head back to Poland after three days. She'll have to isolate the whole time she's in the UK and then she'll be subject to Poland's restrictions when she returns. It's not a minimum of a 14 day stay under quarantine.

Thanks for the confirmation, appreciate it! And breathe..

If she's happy to just stay at home with you guys, and your household can also isolate for 14 days, there's no issues here- her going back before the 14 days are up is down to Poland's rules at the time- no one here is going to stop her leaving.

Oh that's what we'll be doing. We are having shopping delivered too now so not even leaving the house for that. Literally just sitting around eating for the weekend Grin

No probs - I had to find out about exactly the same thing for a friend.
