Concerning report about the 111 service

Behind a paywall so cannot read it. My question is who is taking the calls then? Untrained staff? Hmm

ChaChaCha2012 · 01/10/2020 16:31

It's not behind a pay wall!

ChaChaCha2012 · 01/10/2020 16:33

There were plenty of concerns about 111 before covid, it's not fit for purpose in normal times let alone now. Isn't Hancock talking about anyone wanting to go to A&E having to call there first, to book an appointment or see if they can go elsewhere? That will cause deaths.

Ok the Guardian equivalent, probably reas my quota of Guardian articles for the day and not registered yet.

@slidingdrawers If you click "I'll do it later" you can continue reading!

whataballbag · 01/10/2020 16:37

@ChaChaCha2012 no, the idea is that only actual accidents and emergencies will be seen in a&e without appointments apparently. Everyone else will be directed to other appropriate options

slidingdrawers · 01/10/2020 16:38

I understood the concerns previously were wrt non clinical staff, thus my question as to who is now staffing and gatekeeping the service? Serco Confused

It seems many were told to rest and take paracetamol. untrained advisors, sounds pretty awful. I know in Germany, paramedics were sent out to homes with oximeters. It seems here they outsourced to firms previously taken on in preparation for a pandemic flu. I hope things are changing now.
