Will this go ahead 2 weeks tomorrow? First Holy Communion.

Hi there, I live just outside Liverpool which has been put under stricter lockdown rules today.

My DD should have made her First Holy Communion in May but it was “postponed until a later date” back in February. At that point we were still attending the weekly meetings at church for preparation and had not bought her dress or anything else.

Fast forward to 2 weeks ago and we received a message from school telling us that it has been rescheduled to Friday 16th October. Dd is 9 and now in year 5 and in her school the FHC is a really big deal. Restrictions have come into play and there are no hymns/singing, no photographer, no parties and only 3 guests for each child.

Now today we have been told that no families are to mix at ANY indoor venue. I’m confused as to whether or not that will mean the FHC even though each child has their own individual bench in quite a big church so technically would be able to socially distance from other families.

In a panic I rang the school and they’re unsure yet if it will affect it and I’ve spoken to several other mums on group chat who all wish they could do it next year properly and not in a rush like this though logistically I’m sure there would be issues with that too.

Embarrassingly for us, we are going to get DD’s dress etc tomorrow ( very last minute i know ) and don’t really want to spend out if it won’t be happening.

Sorry for long post. Any thoughts please?

Can you ask the PP?

They'll be the most up to date on what is permitted in a church

I was thinking that. He isn’t the most approachable person at times but I can always ring him. It seems the date was his idea rather than waiting until next year so am sure if there is a way around the restrictions he will do it. Thanks for your reply.

Zoflorabore - I’m in the same predicament - But please don’t approach the PP - just contact the Parish Office - or you WYA instructor ☘️
