(or have I imagined it?)

OP posts:
SpookyNoise · 30/09/2020 17:15

The rates aren’t going up for kids in schools, but they are quite possibly passing it on to family members, school staff and others.

Fressia123 · 30/09/2020 17:16

What was the point of it??

Norugratsatall · 30/09/2020 17:17

Guns?! 😳

Gobacktothe90s · 30/09/2020 17:18

How can they say there isn't a increase in school age? In Manchester 300 schools have had cases!

PineappleUpsideDownCake · 30/09/2020 17:19

Gowns. I did a real double take though!

festiveivf · 30/09/2020 17:19

It sounds like a warning before a Sunday announcement maybe
PineappleUpsideDownCake · 30/09/2020 17:19

It absolutely must be spreading from family to family via schools.

PineappleUpsideDownCake · 30/09/2020 17:20

There was a definite underlying message that as the hosptials began to fill again stricter measures would happen.

I was expecting soemthing of substance today though.

SpookyNoise · 30/09/2020 17:21

I know of school staff who should be isolating (having been in contact with someone who has tested positive) who are in school, working, because they have been told they must go in.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 30/09/2020 17:21

Absolutely thought he just said guns

So did the subtitles. Although he also handed over to Chris sweetie.

Disconnect · 30/09/2020 17:21

I thought the graphs and animation were very good.
The measures in schools are working, schools are not responsible for mass transmission.

The 18-21 year old lines were clear though - universities and colleges and other places where this age group mix closely (pubs/bars) are not as safe and this age group has a large increase in numbers - massive.

Plus the hospitalisation of the elderly with Covid-19 is increasing.

The80sweregreat · 30/09/2020 17:27

It seems a warning doesn't it? Don't do as you are being told or take the advice given then things will be even bleaker.
Also about keeping the economy going : that is being rammed home as is keeping schools open.

TonytheDog · 30/09/2020 17:28

Avoiding being in close contact indoors doesn't really work if you're teaching 16-18 year olds crammed into tiny classrooms with shit ventilation.

WhiteChocTwix · 30/09/2020 17:36

Is it weird to break out the 🍷 for a press conference...Grin Whitters presentation was v.clear. DF's care home has stopped me taking him out for a walk tomorrow...roolz are roolz I suppose... Confused

sunset900 · 30/09/2020 17:46

Off topic but did anyone else think that animation looked like the worlds biggest game of blockbusters?

MarshaBradyo · 30/09/2020 17:47

Need to watch
Dc interrupt R4 listening

It was surprisingly good.

Those wanting schools closed will be really pissed off at the facts presented. Those in the NE and NW feeling hard done by can't really argue with those graphics either - things are much worse there (for now, likely to spread in time tho).

Graphics also supported sending uni students home for remote learning and closing pubs/bars as age groups worst affected are 18-21. But government won't do that.

And the poor elderly - doing worst for hospitalisation and ITU.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 30/09/2020 18:04

There are very few people who want schools closed. There’s quite a lot of people who want there to be better mitigation in schools. I think there’s a reasonable argument from that data to extend the remote learning to 6th form though. 18-21 were the worst groups affected, but also the 17-18 year olds.

It wouldn’t be too dissimilar to what Sweden/Iceland did in March-May/June

StealthPolarBear · 30/09/2020 18:11

Love Chris sweetie :)

The80sweregreat · 30/09/2020 18:24

The animation shown was very ' blockbusters' !
I think they will stay with local lockdowns for now. The economy is king for now and we are on a tightrope.
It's a stark warning to all , but people still won't listen unfortunately :(

Areyousureted · 30/09/2020 18:28

People on mumsnet are still questioning it all and wanting to just release restrictions and allow it to spread. I thought they did a good job of trying to explain “why we are in lockdown when nobody is dying” but people just aren’t listening unfortunately

Areyousureted · 30/09/2020 18:34

Do we think that cases really aren’t rising in school age children? Or
Is it simply that they are having asymptomatic cases ?

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 30/09/2020 18:35

I think we’re probably beyond the point where the only way you can convince those people is by them living it and seeing first hand what happens.
Areyousureted · 30/09/2020 18:36

I agree rafals. I just can’t believe how short people’s memories are

But we can't live like this for too much longer, it's cruel
