When should I chase up a test result?

My child was tested for covid yesterday morning. Another child from school was also tested about 3 hours later but at a different local test centre. She received her results at midday and we’re still waiting. I had assumed it would be 48 hours at least and we’re not there yet but now I’m getting nervous as others I know seem to think 24 hours is the norm.

I don’t even know how to chase up the results, nor do I want to until it’s been at least 48 hours but I’m just wondering what the normal wait time is - I only know a handful of people who’ve been through the process. I have a drs appointment tomorrow that I’m going to have to miss if I don’t get results back beforehand.

I was told to wait 48 hours when I have a test recently.

I chased them up 6 days afterwards and then got the result within half an hour.

I had stupidly thought the hospital would have done it as they had ordered it.
In order to have my endoscopy they wanted me to test 3 days before then isolate.

All a waste of time because they just went ahead anyway without the result.

Maybe check with your Drs to see if you can still have your appointment - it's not you with symptoms. If they say your child needs a negative test then try to follow it up.

Best of luck.

We chased at 72 hours, got the results within 10 minutes of ending the phone call.

How do you chase, I’ve been waiting more than 48 hours and tried calling 119 but the automated voice says that they won’t chase up test results.

Someone else on mumsnet had said that pressing option 1 for test results ended in an automated message, so they instead pressed 2 and waited to speak to an operator. It worked for us too. This was about 10 days ago, mind.
Anniemabel · 01/10/2020 05:37

I did this and I did manage to speak to an operator, told her what I was calling for and spent 20 mins answering all her questions and then she said she couldn’t access his test results. I’ll try again and see if I can get hold of someone else.

Took us 20 hours for a result at Darlington this week
