To Isolate or not isolate?

Sorry to start yet another thread on coronavirus!
I have the track and trace app. Developed Cold symptoms on Sat eve, so muscular aches and sore throat. NO cough, NO temperature, until this eve when my sore throat became a bit worse, and I now have a mild temperature of 37.7-37.8.
(My DH had a sore throat and a cold last week and now hie's totally fine, that's why I am sure I got it from him) So now what?
I go to the app, and out of the 3 symptoms I only have a temp. But NOT like high temperature or fever, as I understand it. I count high temp over 38.
The wording on the app say HIGH temp but not what temp is High enough to be a symptom.
Moving on, I keep clicking, and bosh! I need to self isolate for 9 days according to the app. Red alarm dot flashing all all of it!! What???
If the definition of high temperature was clearer, I may have had a different result. Also, no going back on the app. Once you ticked one symptom box and was told to isolate you are trapped. So even if you clicked on something completely by mistake that's it, and maybe 100 people or so will now be impacted as a result.
So, to isolate or not? I can smell dinner cooking downstairs just fine and my Strepsils taste like lemon indeed.
Honestly it's just a mild cold and I'll be fine tomorrow.

I always class high temp as 38+ BUT was informed by multiple posters on another thread it is 37.8 for covid according to govt guidance.

So you need to isolate and/or test.

One think I take issue with in your post - you do not know it is a cold. It could be covid.

Purrloin · 29/09/2020 19:44

Agree with the PP. for the purposes of Covid a temp of or above 37.8 is considered a fever so yes you need to isolate for 10 days and your household for 14 days (or until you have a negative test)

whyarewehardofthinking · 29/09/2020 19:46

All of the symptoms you are describing can of course be COVID, and this is exacty what we are seeing in our high school. 6th formers presenting with a cold, temp checked to be just over the threshold so we recommend a test before returning; boom they are positive and it is spreading through the year group with new positive tests every few days.

Pinkshrimp · 29/09/2020 19:46

PHE say 37.8 or above so yes, advice is to isolate.

The most important symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19) are recent onset of any of the following:

a new, continuous cough
a high temperature (37.8 degrees Celsius or above)
a loss of, or change in, your normal sense of taste or smell (anosmia)

DumplingsAndStew · 29/09/2020 19:50

@coronaornotcorona

maybe 100 people or so will now be impacted as a result.

Do you live with 100 people?

According to this article is Likely more Cold then Flu or CV. But maybe I'm wrong.

It really sounds like a cold. Look at it this way, you could be taking a test from someone who really needs it.

coronaornotcorona · 29/09/2020 19:57

And by the way, what if the temperature go away? What if I only had it for an hr and that's it?

OP posts:
Seeline · 29/09/2020 19:59

She could also be spreading covid far and wide .....

Do people really get a temp with a cold?

coronaornotcorona · 29/09/2020 20:00

@IrishMamaMia

I think you have a good point. I already checked couple hrs ago and there are no tests available according to the gov website which you are being directed to through the app. I was told to "try again later"... I just sneezed, I think it's a Cold.
OP posts:
coronaornotcorona · 29/09/2020 20:02

@Seeline
Yes, can do. But mild. Maybe it's a throat infection of some other sort? 🤷🏻‍♀️

Nacreous · 29/09/2020 20:04

It's not 100 people impacted by you self isolating is it? It would only notify people if you get a positive test.

DumplingsAndStew · 29/09/2020 20:06

Oh ffs.

coronaornotcorona · 29/09/2020 20:07

@Nacreous thanks for clarifying. The reason I was worried is because I went to a restaurant in Sat and had my app scanned. But if it warns people only after a test then that's different. But there are no test available at the moment 😬

OP posts:
NaturalLight · 29/09/2020 20:09

You have a temperature. You need to get a test and isolate. As does your household. No excuses.

NaturalLight · 29/09/2020 20:10

And there are tests available. You just need to keep trying

Nacreous · 29/09/2020 20:17

Ah, no - the app is to contact Bluetooth contacts if you test positive, and then check ins aren't contacted automatically, only if an outbreak is associated with that particular place.

Do keep trying to get a test if you can though as contacts of positive cases isolating as early as possible is important for keeping the R number down.

MajesticWhine · 29/09/2020 20:19

It sounds like a cold. Yes, people do sometimes get a high temp with a cold - well I certainly do. Its' annoying, but I think the safest thing to do would be to stay home for now and keep trying to get a test.

Treesofwood · 29/09/2020 20:19

Delete the app would be my advice. Possibly too late though.

neveradullmoment99 · 29/09/2020 20:21

I would just isolate for now. Check temperature tomorrow. If its still above what it should be, book a test. If it has come down then its most likely a cold, especially if you are sneezing. Err on the side of caution and isolate for a few days. Stay at home and don't go anwhere and see how it goes.

neveradullmoment99 · 29/09/2020 20:23

I have three colds over the last few weeks. I haven't had a temperature. My dd did have a cold and had a temperature but i kept her off school until i was sure she didnt have it. I also kept my other children off.

Bupkis · 29/09/2020 20:30

A temp over 37.8 is a reason to self isolate until you get a negative test.

If you can't get a test, you will have to self isolate for 10 days, and anyone in your house for 14 days

All of the following are wrong .......
-Worrying there aren't enough tests, so you'll be doing a public service not having one
-the temperature going after a day, so you can go about your business
-staying home for a few days and seeing if you're ok, but not testing and then going out
-thinking if you sneeze/don't have a combination of the main symptoms..that means it's not Covid

coronaornotcorona · 29/09/2020 20:31

I just got a test booked for tomorrow!! I will isolate my household for now. Anyone knows how long till you get an answer? I am starting a new job on Monday so hopefully this Is just a cold 🤞🤞🤞

Results can take several days at the moment, hopefully you'll have a negative result and by Monday!
