Track and trace confusion

I went to a cafe at the weekend about 1ish, on entry I gave my contact details (no app). Got my lunch I was probably in there for 30-40 mins, which got me thinking...

If someone went in there before or after my visit and went on to get a positive test they I would assume let the cafe know. Does that mean that anyone who was in that cafe at whatever time will be told to self isolate? The cafe have no idea what time I arrived or left, I’m confused!

I've often wondered this, but as far as I can make out (though don't take it as gospel, I might be wrong!) in those circumstances, T&T might just contact you to let you know that someone positive has visited a venue that you also visited, and to be more careful/look out for symptoms, but you wouldn't be asked to self-isolate unless you'd been in close contact with the person.

Ah is that so! Thank you that makes sense now!

It's a pretty poor effort if they don't keep a record of what time you were actually there.

I've wondered about this though. I went to Starbucks a few weeks ago and checked in on the track and trace, but I didn't go near anyone else so why would it even matter if someone else who was there had covid?

Do you check in and out with track and trace?

The problem with this is you can't check out so unless you check in somewhere else it thinks you're still there.

Starbucks had a QR code to scan on the way in, and then you check out on the webpage that opens when you leave as well - this is prior to the NHS app being launched. The only other places I've been have been booked time slots (e.g. 9-11 and then they close for an hour before the next time slot) so I assume they're logging the time for you via your booking.

If last night's panarama is anything to go by, by the time Track and Trace manage to contact you, it'll already be at least a week later when you told to isolate...

...its not the time you enter the cafe relative to someone who tests positive that you should be worried about.

I didn’t watch that. Seems pointless really doesn’t it!
