Will disruption over the October half term be the final straw?

beanburgerandcheese · 28/09/2020 11:58

Just that - will it be the point that people say enough is enough with this? Summer plans already disrupted, millions have planned for UK breaks through the October half term just to face potential disruption again. ow long will people patience last with this?

OP posts:
Vinomummyinlockdown · 29/09/2020 19:07

Stuff your holidays ffs!!! There are more important issues in the world like people’s livelihood, mental health and actual health! I’m not planning faye out, holidays etc yet most people are ignorant and stupid and can’t see past their own selfish crap!
How about we all follow a few rules and slow / stop this damn virus?

bigmumsymcgraw · 29/09/2020 19:17

We are choosing not to go on holiday during Oct break, and I would hope that others would be considerate too to stop the spread. Think however I will be disappointed

Tessabelle1 · 29/09/2020 19:19

@niugboo moving my holiday in April, I clearly made plans to go in October. I want the government to enforce a proper lockdown, not a namby pamby town by town fiasco. Local lockdown are a joke, you can leave for work, for shopping even for holidays to other areas ffs! I'd like the rules they already have to be ENFORCED, like masks, get a letter from your GP if you genuinely can't wear one, anyone else should be refused entry to any public buildings, with actual fines being issued for those who refuse. If not, stop saying it's law to wear one, you may aswell fine people £1 million, if the law isn't enforced, it's a sham.

Tessabelle1 · 29/09/2020 19:23

@bigmumsymcgraw I've already asked to move my holiday, ilthe company have refused. If they continue to refuse, I can't afford to just kiss £200 goodbye so barring any local lockdown, I'll be going. We're a family of 6 already so we won't be mixing with others, we're in a caravan so not even in a building with anyone else. We've done everything that's asked of us right the way through and if we have no option but to lose money, I won't do that as I got made redundant at the end of August so who knows when we'll be able to afford a holiday next.

Knickerthief1 · 29/09/2020 19:27

I think it may just be the final straw for my mental health Op. I'm hanging by a thread. I struggle with SAD as it is. I usually plan some winter sun to help with that. I haven't been able to book a foreign holiday but I feel desperate for a few days away in October. It's not fair on families or so many businesses to be affected over a peak week. Do the shut down now if it's needed!

Celestine70 · 29/09/2020 19:40

I'm designed to no holidays for two years.

Patchworkpatty · 29/09/2020 19:42

Sadly a VIRUS doesn't give a shiny shit if you

Are bored of it
Fed up with it
Anxious about it
Economically screwed by it

Or had your holiday fucked over by it.

Highest death toll today since July and increasing everyday.

The ONLY way to stop it is to limit contact with it. And that means staying away from people.

It's not what people want to hear. They want a different answer when there isn't one. So some will do their best to stick to the rules and the rest will carry on spreading it with the inevitable collateral damage. Which (btw) WILL be their fault. As nobody can honestly be that stupid by now not to realise how it spreads.

It's choice. Try and prevent people getting ill by doing the absolute minimum of human contact, that you need to do to keep yourselves fed watered clothed. Or accept that you don't give a toss. but please don't try and say 'you don't understand ' the rules . !!

No one understands the 'rules' even the sodding government don't understand them. However there is enough information out there to work it out for yourself that the more mixing you do the more chance of spreading it.

Bouledeneige · 29/09/2020 19:50

I can't imagine why anyone with half a brain would have booked a holiday in half term. Everyone knew there was likely to be a second wave during the autumn-winter and that travel is likely to be deeply restricted - who would risk having to quarantine for a further 2 weeks after the break?

I can't imagine all those middle class parents denied their break in Centerparcs, Disney or Tuscany rioting in the streets. But maybe that's just a failure of my imagination.

It's been mooted for sometime that there may be a short sharp complete lockdown in half term.

FelicisNox · 29/09/2020 19:52

The October half term and holidays are quite literally the least of everyone's problems.

You can all be as fed up as you like, I'm pretty sure C19 couldn't care less.

Personally I think it's time these negative repetitive posts stopped because it's not helping matters and it's certainly not helping people's already fragile emotional states.

Now is not the time to be wringing your hands, now is the time to take a deep breath, mentally hunker down and financially/practically/educationally prepare for the next 6 months as best you can and try to be as positive and support of all because we're unlikely to see the back of this virus before March..... it's time to dig out that legendary British fortitude and crack on.

Look for any positives you can find. Any.

SoUtterlyGroundDown · 29/09/2020 19:59

I can't imagine why anyone with half a brain would have booked a holiday in half term

We booked ours in January.
I bloody hope it’s cancelled as the money spent on it then (when I had a job) would come in useful now I haven’t, due to Covid.

niugboo · 29/09/2020 20:27

@Tessabelle1 another lockdown is a stupid suggestion and is one made only by people without a clue.

Beachhappy · 29/09/2020 20:30

I think there will be many more local lock downs For the half term, yes it’s a shame for those who have made plans, this isn’t for ever. Stick with it peeps, things can only get betttttterrrrrrr!

Beachhappy · 29/09/2020 20:34
@Tessabelle1 another lockdown is a stupid suggestion and is one made only by people without a clue.
It’s ok, not to have a clue, take it easy and learn from each other help each other understand this frightening episode we are all going through.

Whilst I agree I don’t think there will be another country wide lock down, I believe there will be many more local lockdowns and restrictions.

bigmumsymcgraw · 29/09/2020 20:50

So you wont be mixing with anyone? Are the 6 of you sitting in the caravan for a week? Youre kidding urself

Tessabelle1 · 29/09/2020 20:50

@niugboo I don't want another lockdown, I want the restrictions that are in place to actually RESTRICT people. Why lock downa high infection area, but allow people to leave for myriad reasons? How can you lock down Solihull, but allow those residents to shop in Birmingham city centre whilst not wearing a mask if they don't feel like it, or holiday to North Wales all the while potentially spreading the virus? A lockdown should mean just that, no one in, no one out unless you have a pass to allow travel.

wanderings · 29/09/2020 20:52

this isn’t for ever.
Only another six months, Saint Boris said, when he had previously told us "we can turn this virus around in twelve weeks", then "normalish by Christmas". In six months from now, will he be pleading for "just another twelve months of our patience and tolerance for his bullshit"?

@OrangeCinnamon1 As for what riots and civil unrest would achieve: admittedly, nothing, especially if they were anywhere near the scale of the 2011 riots; and when they've died down, we would in a much worse position in the pandemic than we already are, and Boris and his merry men would then hit back by flexing their muscles all the more "you naughty children". We don't want riots and civil unrest, and neither do the government. But the taxpaying public will eventually lose patience for the status quo of the government constantly bullshitting, lying, hoodwinking, deliberately giving mixed messages, U-turning, talking down to us, double standards (Cummings), messing with our heads, blatantly playing divide and conquer, making millions of people unemployed, and destroying lives and livelihoods for questionable reasons. Eventually, the public might just snap and hit back in the only way they can, since we can't vote out the clowns for a good while yet.

SaltyAndFresh · 29/09/2020 20:54

If people do behave as you suggest OP, we'll be back at the beginning. Who gives a crap about the holidays of spoilt bastards who can't see it's not all about them? I can't take a holiday. I've lost too much money and my DH has used all his annual leave covering for me.

Lillibee4 · 29/09/2020 20:54

Don’t even think this will go away. The government have power over us and not likely to give it back regardless of any virus. I was a girl when polio was sweeping the country, we lived through it and no lockdown

Lillibee4 · 29/09/2020 20:56

Well said. Exactly right

iamtheoneandonlyyy · 29/09/2020 20:57

I think about people in developing countries that have suffered beyond any of this and for much longer.
And to read about people over here talking about 'the last straw' because of a bloody holiday is shameful. It's not even a permanent ban.
Maybe soon there will be sponsorship ads.
'Sponsor Mavis and her husband to go to ingoldmells for a week. They haven't been away for almost a year'
Hmm

rhib2 · 29/09/2020 21:10

ListeningQuietly

I completely agree with you , the effects of the end of furlough assistance and Brexit transition period are going to be dreadful.
The Government have not put in place the essential Freight clearance systems ( possibly due to hoping for a 2nd referendum) so European imports are going to be seriously delayed .
Utter cock up .

catsarecute · 29/09/2020 21:11

I guess the thing is, what will happen if people say enough is enough?
Do you mean people will go back to normal OP?

Because the virus will just spread like wildfire then and all that hard work protecting the NHS so it didn't get overwhelmed will have been for nothing.

niugboo · 29/09/2020 21:17

@Tessabelle1 they do restrict people. This isn’t an all or nothing situation.

rhib2 · 29/09/2020 21:47

Wanderings

Well said

Tessabelle1 · 29/09/2020 22:39

@niugboo I disagree. How are people restricted if you can leave the lockdown area for anything other than essential work?
