Is London going to be locked down?

Restaurants and all?

I know it's the Express

It seems likely yes although they do seem to want to keep schools open.

Char2015 · 28/09/2020 08:52

I think it is going to happen. I don't know what they are waiting for. Sadiq wants it. It appears the Government don't. I think the more and more local lockdowns there are, the more likely it is we will need a national lockdown. The Government are probably trying to avoid this. I think they have said there is already a third of the population in local lockdown.

IDontMindMarmite · 28/09/2020 08:54

Other local lockdowns don't include bars and restaurants.

Yes probably! Tbh I hope so, I live in a low cases south east area and don’t want London cases spilling over to my area and making cases rise.

SerenityNowwwww · 28/09/2020 08:57

Probably - we are waiting to hear about the schools. A friend has kids at a school where 2 year bubbles have been sent home because of a Covid alert.

Rosehip10 · 28/09/2020 09:00

If it is being "leaked" to the government supporting press (as much as any papers are supporting the government!) then it is coming.

MagpieSong · 28/09/2020 09:04

Yes, but I’ve heard only for two weeks. Whether that changes, we don’t know yet but seeing as they’ve been talking about a circuit break (whatever that means, sounds like an electrical term) for a long while now, I’d assume it will be two weeks (Probably around half Term). It’s part of controlling numbers to keep schools open, so pubs/restaurants will close, though not sure two weeks will achieve much.

Char2015 · 28/09/2020 09:12

If they close pubs, bars, restaurants etc here in London they should be finding a way to compensate them.

Char2015 · 28/09/2020 09:25

I've just read the Parliament's own bars does not need to abide by the 10pm curfew and can remain open beyond this. WTF?

IDontMindMarmite · 28/09/2020 09:27

This always happens, you can smoke inside Parliament too you know.

Ridiculous.
Fairineouf · 28/09/2020 09:44

I don't think London has reached levels where lockdown is justified though, despite what Sadiq Khan says and despite the press 'leaking' speculative headline grabbers.

If they lockdown the whole of London on the basis the worst London borough's average is 60/100,000 then theres going to be a lot of other areas around the country that fall into that figure that they're going to have to lock down too.

PicsInRed · 28/09/2020 09:56

Yes.

It's been in the planning for weeks, with leaks to newspapers to test public reaction. London's now on the watch list, which is just another way of saying "this is happening, prepare yourselves".

MiniTheMinx · 28/09/2020 09:59

London, mmm, the economic epicenter. Might be better to just scrap this ridiculous idea of local lockdown altogether. Maybe its better to just have tougher restrictions everywhere without bringing the economies of entire regions to breaking point. Why differing levels of restrictions in different regions? These posh boys don't give a shit about the North, its probably an inconvenience that it even exist!
Why not deal with test and track and get it working. More funding into schools and more help and guidance to schools to become safer. Why not part time blended learning. Why not deal with businesses flouting covid guidance. Why not have a process that people trust to decide who is exempt from wearing masks. Why are we ok following government guidelines when they are so inept to have disregarded all advice from experts. I'm horrified that hundreds of students have been encouraged to attend university, only to be quarantined. This was entirely predictable.

Boris sent us home, boris sent us out, Boris crashed the economy, Boris told us to go save it, Boris said we couldn't travel, then Boris said we should, then he says stay home while allowing travellers to visit, Dont use public transport, but do use it if you have to, don't travel around but foreign travellers can do so, Boris said we will take charge, then Boris says its our fault infections are rising. Not only is it our fault but its because our families and friends contact is the culprit. I'm just sick of these muppets. Thank god I'm not sick with Covid too, and its a bloody miracle I'm not.

I don't think London should be locked down. Its ridiculous to have two thirds of the UK locked down under varying degrees of restrictions. I'm struggling to articulate what this seems to signify. I think it feels like we are breaking up the country, dividing the nation, causing huge inequalities and forcefully imprisoning whole regions, creating the conditions in which people point to the Covid carriers and proclaim they are lepers. Perhaps (and I'm in the south east) we should just errect a fences and checkpoints. That'll stop the Covid carrying plebs. Funny how Bojos Mrs can go holiday in a big crowd! but the plebs in the North cant hug their mum,.....This bastards are making us pay for their stupidity.

This sounds like pure speculation. Can you substantiate your claims here?

And subsidised booze.
MarshaBradyo · 28/09/2020 10:01

If businesses are closed then someone has to pay for it

So Sadie might want it but needs the £

MarshaBradyo · 28/09/2020 10:23

Sadiq

Orangeblossom7777 · 28/09/2020 10:28

It isn't working on other lockdown areas (the restrictions at present)

@IDontMindMarmite though technically exempt, you can’t smoke inside on the parliamentary estate, only in several outside designated smoking areas.
stoptheworldiwant2getoff · 28/09/2020 10:31

I'm giving birth two weeks today and just want to know so I can deal with it if so. The speculation is so annoying

NastyBlouse · 28/09/2020 10:47

Never say never but I'd be surprised if they do, personally. I think the Mayor is positioning himself to make Johnson look like he doesn't care. For the most part, cases aren't high enough to justify it.

And local lockdowns don't seem to work. Lancs has been in one since July, and they're still experiencing one of the highest case levels in the country two months later.

I don't really know what to make of Siddique Khan's strong desire to lock London down again. Is he just being over cautious or wants to just be seen in opposition to a government that everyone has lost faith in?

I think we are heading for another national lockdown, but I don't know how the hospitality industry can possibly survive another one.
