Asthma cough...

My DS has asthma, every winter his cough gets worse especially at night...he coughs until he is sick sometimes.

His cough has got worse again the past few days, how do I know the difference between his asthma cough and a 'new continuous cough'?

Do I keep him off school when he's only just started? Do I get a test?

I know this shouldn't be difficult to decide but I can't keep him off all winter when he's had a cough every winter since he was born but then also don't want him mixing at school if he could put others at risk.

Help!

I would say if he's just developed a cough when he hasn't had one for a few months that's a new cough and he should get a test. Assuming the test comes back negative, further coughing is not a new cough so doesn't warrant a test unless it becomes much worse than usual.
