I’m currently on sick at the moment from work and I have been for 3 weeks so far. I am in the process of job looking and I’m hoping I can get a transfer (NHS). I’m worried this will go against me when I’m at a interview. Does it look bad? Apart from this I’m an excellent worker and I don’t usually have much time off from work. My boss can’t accommodate the shift pattern I need.

Being on genuine sick leave shouldn't be a problem unless it'll recur - is it something you expect to.clear up?

Todaythiscouldbe · 27/09/2020 16:39

Totally depends on the reason for sickness and whether it is likely to continue.

Littered5 · 27/09/2020 16:43

Without finding another job/transfer. I’m unable to commit to what I used to work before hence me being on sick as it’s taken it’s toll on my health... & I’ve had some personal stress in my life.

I'll be honest (NHS background) and say it's not going to look great that you have been signed off because you can't commit to your working hours. Apologies if I've read that wrong though.

Do you need a shift change for childcare or health reasons?

CakeGirl2020 · 27/09/2020 18:26

It depends why your sick and if your likely to be sick for the next week or 6 months. Having just read your update your on the sick as you couldn’t commit to your contracted hours? Yes that doesn’t great does it really but if this new post is for different hours it may be ok

My thought process is not the clearest at the moment and I will chat with my GP. Next week. I have been working nights and it’s too much for me so it’s not that I don’t have childcare as such. I’ve been in this job role for 9 years still in my 20s and feel totally overwhelmed by everything. A part of me wants to go back to work but I’ve been increasing anxious and some other things that caused me to go on sick. I’m worried though that it does look bad an I’m letting my department down.
