This is so depressing and the government’s statement at the end is pathetic - why didn’t they see this coming and allocate additional funding for schools to pay for additional teachers?

Quoting pp, you’ve just show how clueless you are about education

itsa who is it you think is clueless? It’s not clear?

Clav, it’s clear enough, I quoted them.

They’ve just shown that they clearly have no clue and are being obtuse for the sake of it. The very fact they quoted pupil premium shows they don’t know; what it is, how much it is, who it is for, what it can be used for and absolutely no understanding about what they are saying. That’s the clearest post yet which shows the sheer ignorance.

From your link Clav "£672,915.52 of Government investment has been granted to Harlow to upgrade and refurbish school buildings"

That explains the 'lovely school building' but not how they can use that money to pay for supply teachers.

Ffs. No need to be snippy!! I agree with you!

"In some cases a reduction in funding stream from another source has been ameliorated by the Pupil Premium, with the result that by part-funding existing effective opportunities within the school, the Pupil Premium has effected the continuation of such services due to the fact that their subscription was highly skewed towards students in receipt of the Pupil Premium."
"In accordance with our inclusive ethos we rarely offer opportunities only to a specific cohort, particularly when they are determined by the drawing of an arbitrary line (which we accept is a necessity). It is important to our functioning as a cooperative school that our offer goes beyond mere financial hardship and targets students with other deficits in life chances, for example those who experience cultural poverty or whose special educational needs require them to receive ‘a little extra’..."

Yep, you have no clue what you’re talking about. Anyone can cut and paste. It’s pretty obvious you are out of your depth and have no clue. Sorry.

Sorry, I disagree.

I'm in Scotland, but my relative has been out of teaching for a few years and got a letter from the GTCS attempting to recruit him back into teaching if he just paid them a £60 fee. Tempting! He chose not to take them up on that offer!

@HipTightOnions

Aside from the fact that we don’t have spaces big enough for 60, and it’s very hard to teach 30 properly from the front, let alone 60, I don’t see how merged lessons would work in secondary. Maybe for Maths, where they’re all being taught the same subject at the same time (because of setting) but how does it work when one class is timetabled for Geography, another for French, another for Art...

When we merged classes before lockdown, it was just for babysitting.

I would be pulling my children out of school No way is that acceptable.

@WickedEmoji

I have said this on another thread, but our isolating teachers are teaching via google meets on large screens at the front of the classrooms with a ta or crowd control in the actual classroom.
Ours are too.

Non-isolating teachers are teaching to classes where half are physically present and half are at home on Google Meet. It took them a week or so to work it all out but it’s going fine now.
