Test and trace rant!

MyView2 · 24/09/2020 23:05

My husband got a positive test result today (Scotland), mild symptoms fortunately. We both have the Protect Scot NHS app and I have taken some comfort when I’ve received messages stating I’ve not been in contact with a positive case until today.....

I asked my husband if he had put in his test code to the app so it will inform others. Test code? What test code? There is no test code! Then I asked if he had added everyone’s names on the test and trace website and again he had no idea what I was taking about as he had a text confirming a positive result and stating that ‘you may be contacted for contact tracing.’ MAY be contacted and no surprises so far that nobody has been in touch. I’m really concerned about this, is it any wonder cases are spreading so fast?! It seems that unless the individual themselves is proactive in letting people know then we could all have been exposed and have absolutely no idea, what is the point of the app?

Can anyone shed some light on what is going on? Should test and trace have picked this up or have I misunderstood?

If he only got his positive test today then maybe an advisor will be contacting him in the next day or so. Its the contact tracer that supplies the code from what I've read

YABU to call this a test and trace rant when that is the English system that is nothing to do with the Scottish 'test and protect' system.

You are quite right, my apologies I have called it the wrong thing. Perhaps my expectations of the contact tracing element of it were over optimistic in terms of timescales. I’ve downgraded my rant to disappointment.

Was he contacted in the end? My daughter is in the same boat, positive test today but no code to put in the app and no contact from test and protect.

Yes he was contacted the day after his test result (two days after his test) and they were really thorough. They spoke to him for ages and then phoned me as a close contact too. I think they are just really busy. However I can’t help but think that was an extra day went by where contacts could have been blissfully unaware and walking about spreading it further. I don’t know why they don’t send the code along with the results notification so it’s all automated but perhaps I’m over simplifying it.

Not surprising unfortunately. Sturgeon and the SNP have had 6 months to get a test and trace working but have spent the time crowing about how much better they were doing than England.

How are they going to improve testing over a 2 week pub closure when they’ve failed to do it in 6 months.

Test and trace for an illness like covid is a total nonsense.

Its purpose is to convince people that measures are being taken - all that is needed for that to happen is for the system to appear to be working, but the government can't even manage that. It's such a joke.

JumperTime · 09/10/2020 12:06

Took them 48 hours to contact my positive colleague and a further 24 hours to contact close contacts. Completely pointless.

Not great.

My daughter eventually called them on Saturday afternoon (tested positive on the Thursday morning). They then said they would call her back so it was actually Saturday evening before she spoke to them. The bizarre thing is her friend had a positive result on Saturday morning and was contacted by test and protect almost immediately.

Factually speaking the Scottish system is working better than the English system.

They contact faster and their contact percentage is much higher.

It can be argued they still don't contact fast enough, as I agree every day is valuable, but the Scottish population are fortunate their system is nothing like the total shower of shit England has.
