My husband has just come back from a 3 hour wild goose chase with our son. He booked a test online this morning for 6pm and got there only to be told he wasn't on their system, despite getting the 'appointment booked' message up on the screen. He later found out there was supposed to have been a QR code texted to him, which wasn't (and apparently they've had loads of people turn up and be turned away for this). So they've come home and he's booked again, and this time he's got a confirmation text - but it says we need photo ID. Well due to the very same virus we haven't renewed my son's passport this year so no photo ID. Does anyone know if they will turn us away again? It's an hour and a half drive away this time so don't want to go unnecessarily. TIA!

We’ve had 4 covid tests and never once had to show ID

Changedmynameagain1 · 24/09/2020 20:38

we didn’t show ID either

WishMyNameWasWittyNotShitty · 24/09/2020 20:39

We never had to show our kids' ID, but you mention you didn't renew his passport, have you still his old one? It's still got a photo so might be worth taking, good luck, hope you get sorted!

lljkk · 24/09/2020 20:41

lots of reports on MN of no one ever asking for photo id
QR code yes required!

ThreePipeProblems · 24/09/2020 20:47

You don’t need photo ID. You do need a QR code. I’ve had four tests and my children three. Never been asked for ID.

Maycavy · 24/09/2020 21:05

You should be fine, I took my id but they never even mentioned it. You definitely need the QR code. Hope your son is ok.

DianaT1969 · 24/09/2020 21:51

Have you checked junk folder for the qr code? Some mail accounts send images to it as they are deemed spammy.

Augustbreeze · 24/09/2020 22:58

It says further down in the confirmation of booking message that it's only over 18s that need ID. But as PPs have said, they never even ask adults for it afaik.

Thanks everyone, and good point about taking the expired passport - he's 12 now and it just ran out this year so it still looks like him! @DianaT1969 we didn't think of looking there, although this last one just pinged straight through.

I was asked for photo I’d, but used a recently expired one and it was fine.

Hedgehog44 · 25/09/2020 06:56

We didn't get asked to show any.

Tarararara · 25/09/2020 07:02

We didnt get asked for ID, and in fact didnt need the QR code - they identified us from the number plate we had imputted and just held up their mobile with our name and asked us to confirm that was us.

Subordinateclause · 25/09/2020 07:09

Take the expired passport.

Pelleas · 25/09/2020 07:17

Neither I nor my husband were asked for ID when we had Covid tests.
