Tegnell the turncoat?

Oh dear, the “Covid-is-over” crew won’t like this! Their hero, chief epidemiologist Anders Tegnell, is apparently considering lockdown measures - albeit brief - to deal with a spike of cases in Stockholm - which the CIO crew assured everyone now was a beacon of ‘herd immunity’.

For what it’s worth, I admire Tegnell and how he’s handled things - He stuck to his guns in the face of the world taking a different approach. Admittedly he was helped by excellent health facilities, population sparsity and a high trust culture, and it probably wasn’t to possible mimic in the U.K. for these reasons.... and the action taken on care homes was a major mistake.

However, he’s bizarrely now become an icon of the libertarian right and the toast of many a DM commenters. He risks losing his new found friends now, and go from hero to zero faster than you can say self-isolation.

It’s a testament to his willingness to do what he believes is right (even if that’s debatable) irrespective of what others think of him. He’s certainly not a sheep!
