Should I get a Covid test for DS?

DS (15) has had a nasty snivelly cold for a couple of days and is now coughing occasionally. No fever or other symptoms.

To me this is clearly just a cold symptom and not Covid. But he is coughing every now and then. Should I get him a test? Can I send him to school tomorrow? Should we all isolate?

How "continuous" does a cough have to be?

From www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/symptoms/ :

a new, continuous cough – this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (if you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual)

Personally I'd keep my DC off anyway as I wouldn't want to spread a cold around at a time when tests are so scarce and families who couldn't WFH might lose their wages if they then had to isolate because they'd caught it from us.

Thanks, Grapefruit - that definition is really helpful!

He doesn't meet those criteria at the moment.
