What is the end goal?

Ok so let me start off by saying that I do stick to the rules. I wear masks, I adhere to social distancing etc. I have been following the government rules fairly strictly and not moaning about them too much because.. well, it is what it is.

I'm just wondering though, what is the end goal with coronavirus? If we have another lockdown as of today and ease it slowly, at some point, at the end of lockdown, we have to live our lives as normal and at that point, the virus will flourish. Whether the rules ease off in one week, one year or one decade, at that point, rates will begin to rise. Are we really just putting off the inevitable? I do get that we have to prepare, build services up so that they can cope. But haven't we already done that with the Nightingale Hospitals? Is the government trying to see us through the winter season? Is it this potential vaccine that we are waiting for?

So yeah, I guess my question is what it is in the title without all the above bumf lol.

@kittensarecute

Fucking my mental health up and causing me to be seriously considering suicide by depriving me of my one passion in life.
So sorry, I've had a shitty few years and when my life was getting back on track, this all happened. It's hard, I know where you are coming from. There has to be an end to all of this.

Not the end goal but an effective test and trace system would be a start. I’m a teacher with symptoms and have spent the day trying to get a test but getting a this service is very busy try again in a few hours message repeatedly.

Meant to be working tomorrow but I can’t and ds can’t go to school either until I have a test and hopefully negative result. If I can’t get a test I can’t work for 10 days and ds has to miss another 2 weeks of school.

Not sure closing pubs at 10 is going to cut it.

Effective and speedy testing, contact tracing and facilitating isolation conformity is the bare minimum we need

There is no goal.

No leadership, no plan, no hope.

@MadameBlobby

It’s clear that they’re pinning everything on a vaccine fairly soon as they have no strategy at all. They’re fucked frankly.
I’ve been wondering this exact thing (as these restrictions cannot continue except in the short term) and I think the quoted post has it. These measures are to carry us to early next year when they can start rolling out the vaccine. If there is no vaccine I don’t think there’s currently a plan B.

I think there will be though.

The goal is "perfection".

They've lost sight of common sense and reason.

If there is any kind of plan it is this

I predict that soon you won’t be allowed to enter any commercial premises unless you electronically check-in

And the powers that be will know where you are at any given time and wherever you’ve been

Big Brother is watching you and all that...

@frozendaisy

"Presume the "goal" is not to have patients lined up on the floor in A&E."

Was that ever the case?

Nearly.

Autumn/winter + Covid-19, I would imagine is a different matter though.
