Would you go to Greece?

Currently on the exempt list.
We're looking at 4 nights this weekend

My main worries are:
Currently at 27 per 100,000
Changing rules in wales whilst we're away
Getting ill whilst there and not being able to get home to kids (who will be safe at their dads)

On the other hand I'm desperate for some sun.
Have worked throughout the pandemic (ITU and community nursing)

what does your employer say?
are they allowing it?

Fishfingersandwichplease · 22/09/2020 08:08

As mich as l would love a week in the sun relaxing, the stress of being locked down in a foreign country and possibly having to quarantine just wouldn't be worth it for me.

userxx · 22/09/2020 08:09

I'd go.

CremeEggThief · 22/09/2020 08:10

No, nobody should really be going abroad for the next few months, unfortunately.

Cantdecidewhich · 22/09/2020 08:24

I have been twice this year and it was fantastic, go!

Tomatoesneedtoripen · 22/09/2020 08:25

if you are having to ask i guess you are thinking it is a No, or at least irresponsible

Weallfloatdownhere · 22/09/2020 08:28

I’d go.

Toontown · 22/09/2020 08:30

Check with your boss. If they are ok with it then go.

MozzchopsThirty · 22/09/2020 08:36

We went to Italy a month ago and it was beautiful, but the weather there this weekend is shocking which is why we've looked at Greece.

It's Athens flying with BA it's all on points so no financial risk and could come back using points

My employee can't restrict holidays if there's no current travel restrictions it's only if I travel somewhere not on the exempt list knowingly

OP posts:
Sparklfairy · 22/09/2020 08:44

So you've only just come back from holiday!?

Colourmylife1 · 22/09/2020 08:44

We all have an obligation to follow the guidelines and regulations. Beyond that we have to manage our own risks and not be reckless. Your trip is allowable and the risk is probably less than many activities you can legitimately do in this country.

AuntieDolly · 22/09/2020 08:47

Check what your insurance will cover you for. Ours was pretty useless on the medical front and we did want to risk it.

eufycurious · 22/09/2020 08:49

If you are in Wales I don't think I would as things here can change quickly at the moment.

user1471523870 · 22/09/2020 08:57

I was in Greece when the government announced the island I was in was going to be on the quarantine list. I immediately jumped on the first flight back home and cut my holiday short of few days.
That was stressful and far from ideal, but we knew the risks (even if by then Greece had something like 13/100,000 cases and we were in a private accommodation, not sharing public spaces etc). Also, the cases in the UK and across Europe were still low.

No, I would not go now as not only you will risk having to quarantine, but it's likely that in the next few days/weeks the airlines will reduce their flights and you find it difficult to come back.

Honestly, I would not be able to say where it's safe to go at the moment:(.

Heyahun · 22/09/2020 08:57

I would - but then I work at home for the foreseeable so can isolate on return! I’ve been away a few times this summer (Ireland & Spain) was able t isolate at home for the 2 weeks on return.

Doesn’t sound like your job can facilitate the isolating though.

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 22/09/2020 08:59

Depends where. Infection rates vary wildly.

We are going to Turkey on 3rd Oct. Covid safe hotel, low infection rates. Obviously the flight is a worry but....this could be a last chance to get away.

Itsabeautifuldayheyhey · 22/09/2020 09:01

No.

Smileyoriley · 22/09/2020 09:20

Good heavens no!

PeaceAndHarmoneeee · 22/09/2020 09:24

No

We had to isolate 14 days on returning to uk from our holiday (unexpectedly, rates rose during our long stay there) and it was a complete ball ache tbh. And that was a country with lower rates than Greece have now.

Luckily we could wfh but couldn't see friends and family, take kids anywhere etc.

MozzchopsThirty · 22/09/2020 09:25

It's Athens

And no I haven't 'just come back from holiday'

We had 3 nites in Italy a month ago.

Cornettoninja · 22/09/2020 09:28

@Sparklfairy

So you've only just come back from holiday!?
Have to say that thought crossed my mind. Kind of ruins the opening narrative of a poor stressed out healthcare worker desperately needing a break. No idea why that was necessary to add - this isn’t a court, mitigating circumstances don’t make any difference.

Re:OP, no I wouldn’t travel right now. We seem to be entering/are already in another period where things are changing quickly. I would find it incredibly stressful to potentially be unable to get back to my dc or not be here if a new restriction or rule change would potentially distress them.

Ultimately though if you are physically able to travel then you can. The decision to do so is completely up to you.

CorianderLord · 22/09/2020 09:32

Yes, I'm going next month and booked with TUI. They let you change dates etc and have a COVID-promise

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 22/09/2020 09:33

God forbid the OP should have two holidays Hmm

Sakura7 · 22/09/2020 09:34

You already got away to Italy, isn't that enough? I agree with PPs that international travel in the middle of a pandemic is not a good idea, let alone twice in the space of a month.

Cherrycee · 22/09/2020 09:35

@chocolatesaltyballs22

God forbid the OP should have two holidays Hmm
You're missing the key point here, we are in the middle of a global pandemic.
