Course it's not But then I don't believe all the mystic meg stuff Shitty Whitty was coming out with either. Personally I think it's all a distraction for just how bad things are going to get when brexit hits.

I'm just surprised I haven't seen any threads about it becoming illegal by the end of the month not to isolate. Starting fines £1000

Lemons1571 · 21/09/2020 19:02

It’s only illegal if you have symptoms or a positive test right? So, if someone in your household has symptoms and you are a contact, it’s not illegal??

Cocklepops · 21/09/2020 19:35

Not with that defeatist attitude it won’t.

Worriedmum999 · 21/09/2020 19:38

We aren’t going to stop the spread now it’s this far gone with schools open that’s pretty obvious.

Rosehip10 · 21/09/2020 19:40

The fines for non-isolation are simply a crude way to try and decrease the people coming forward for testing - i.e demand falls, covid appears to fall, Bojo is a hero..................

Char2015 · 21/09/2020 19:42

The only thing that will work is a full national lockdown again and that is with everything being closed again, schools, pubs, restaurants, etc which is not going to happen at this point.

Newjez · 21/09/2020 20:16

I reckon wetherspoon shares might be a bit cheaper tomorrow.

OpheliasCrayon · 21/09/2020 20:21

I believe schools have to stay open. But as a teacher who's already caught the first thing going...I can tell you that this virus is going to absolutely rip through the schools and into homes. All the "covid safe" stuff is just ridiculous...they're schools...stuff gets spread. I'm vulnerable, shielding, whatever and I'll be continuing to work...but I wouldn't for one second think that there's anything in place to actually stop this thing.

Autumnsthemostwonderfultime · 21/09/2020 20:29

@OpheliasCrayon

It doesn't have to rip through schools though. If we can all get community transmission low again we can protect schools. But that requires people to follow social distancing as much as possible.

I just don't think it can work like that- community transmission can be low, but it just takes a couple of cases to get into schools and it will spread like wildfire

catsarecute · 21/09/2020 20:43

They need to close the schools for a couple of weeks and put secondaries on blended learning after that. And introduce temperature checks, and remove the threat of fines for parents that want to keep their kids at home. I can't see how they can get anywhere close to controlling transmission in schools without that. It's no coincidence that cases have rocketed after schools have opened.

If they ever get operation moonshot up and running we night have a chance then. In the meantime we need a functioning test and trace system, urgently :-(

Can't just keep bloody 'locking down' until there is a vaccine! It's a virus, it's not going to take the hint that it's not wanted. It'll be there every time we reopen and start mixing again ffs.

Unfortunately I just can't get behind blended learning. For most people it isn't possible and it just puts many many children on more uneven and unfair footing than they're already on. Kids need to be in school.
Autumnsthemostwonderfultime · 21/09/2020 20:48

@catsarecute

Well I've got a dc in secondary and my dc is being kept in a group of 26 all day. So I'd beg to differ.

It will rip through schools though ...

Just a thought though.... If...test and trace was working then...maybe it wouldn't have to just tear establishments apart and have kids miss two weeks on and off because they couldn't get tested...

But apparently no one could forsee that this would be necessary so...it is going to run riot through schools

supersonicginandtonic · 21/09/2020 21:03

I actually find the doom and gloom people more depressing than the pandemic. Life goes on, you have to learn to live with what you have got. Try and look on the bright side or we are heading for a mental health pandemic. Your doom and gloom isn't only pulling you down it's pulling everybody around you down and that is quite selfish.

catsarecute · 21/09/2020 21:07

@Autumnsthemostwonderfultime I've got a DC in secondary too. Which bit would you beg to differ on?

@OpheliasCrayon 5 cases in DS's secondary already, two and a half weeks in. Loads of kids isolating and on remote learning anyway. Planned blended learning might actually give them more consistency (and keep them, scholl staff and their families safer).

You've said earlier in the thread it will rip through schools and you are right.

Of course if there wasn't a pandemic on, and we were in normal times I would never want blended learning as an option. But we are in exceptional times, we need to do something different to normal (unfortunately).

Autumnsthemostwonderfultime · 21/09/2020 21:10

That all secondary schools should go on blended learning, which is just a wanky phrase for part time school.

My dcs secondary is no more risky than a primary. Safer in fact.

Beebityboo · 21/09/2020 21:11

I'm deregistering my DD from secondary tomorrow. It isn't safe of sustainable for them to continue as they are and unfortunately I've run out of hope that the government will see sense on this. The school bus was standing room only today and DD was one of only three people wearing a mask. It's ridiculous.

middleager · 21/09/2020 21:13

Bit late to contain it in school.

The genie is out the bottle in many areas. If it's not in your area, then you are lucky. I'm in a high risk area on local lockdown, kids in big inner city schools.

In just two weeks there are 8,000 children 'off' and 100 schools with cases in my area.
One healthy 14 year old had a week in school before a case in their options group. Several cases in school, so when he finally returns I expect he'll be back again.
Several cases in twin's secondary too.
