When to keep kids off school

DS has a virus, worse than a cold, headache, dizzy, been in bed all weekend (some sleeping). No cough at all, no temperature, no loss of taste or smell. Can’t get a test. Should I keep the other DCs off of school too? They’re fine, no one else has symptoms. Info from the school says to only keep siblings off if there are CV symptoms, so if I go along with that, they should go in. But it doesn’t seem right. WWYD?

Send them in.
I'm a teacher and I've been calling parents all week who've kept their kids off for similar reasons, begging them to send them back!
Schools (well all the ones I know!) want them in - they've got a lot of catching up to do and have already faced so much disruption.

Marmite that was exactly what I was thinking. If I keep them all off every time someone in the family is unwell then they’d hardly ever be in school!

I could keep trying to book a test make sure but that may well be wasting a test that someone with actual CV symptoms could use.

You don't need a corona test as your child doesn't display any of the covid symptoms? If they're that unwell don't send them to school until they feel well enough to go back. But they do not need a covid test!

This is why there is a shortage

Send the others in but clearly he's in no state to be in school. Although if the symptoms are headache, dizziness and tiredness there's a good chance that it isn't a virus in any case (sounds like it could well be a migraine).

My eldest was ill last week and I kept her off like normal illness as no coronavirus symptoms. She'll go back in tomorrow and my youngest still went in all week.

Why are you trying to get a test?

Keep your child off, he sounds unwell.

Pickagoddamnname · 20/09/2020 23:23

Send them in and agree no need for a test. I have the same cold with all the same symptoms and haven’t even thought to test as it’s clearly a bad cold.

BumbleFlump · 20/09/2020 23:34

Thanks will keep him off until he’s better and send the others in. Won’t test unless any significant CV symptoms develop, as if we have a choice!

Suppose lockdown didn’t just pause Corona!
