Scotland - what's coming 'measures' wise for us do you think?

Possibly no household mixing?

OP posts:
zafferana · 20/09/2020 18:16

Yes, I think any immediate changes will relate to household mixing, because a) it's responsible for a lot of infections and b) it won't have much impact on the economy. They really don't want to close hospitality, much as that would help to control infections, because if they do they've got to extend furlough/support for that whole sector.

LoopyGremlin · 20/09/2020 18:20

The areas that are already in a local lockdown, are children under 12 allowed to visit other households since they don’t have to distance? Don’t think my children will cope with another few months of not seeing their friends and cousins 😞

dementedpixie · 20/09/2020 18:24

I think they may limit the distance you can travel for leisure again. In local lockdown areas you're not allowed to mix households indoors already - maybe this will be extended further

weebarra · 20/09/2020 18:28

Yes, no households mixing and maybe a limit on distance.
We were camping in East Lothian this weekend and there were a lot of people not adhering to the rule of 6.
We were supposed to be going to Northumberland for the October week, postponed from Easter. The DCs will be very sad if we can't go.

SockYarn · 20/09/2020 18:44

Well, most of greater glasgow is under "no household mixing" as it is. Certainly no going into other people's houses, or having friends to you.

I suspect that yes, she'll extend that nationally. Even though some areas have zero cases. I'd be pretty fucked off about it if I lived in Stornoway or Kirkwall.

And a 10pm curfew on pubs/restaurants.

250 people diagnosed with Covid today. 0 deaths.

And now the teaching unions are calling for Nat 5s to be scrapped again next year? What planet are they on??

Cakestandkitchen · 20/09/2020 19:19

I think no mixing households and a 10 pm one venue curfew on pubs and restaurants etc. Possibly making the October school holidays 3 weeks.

I’ve not long watched the ITV news where they interviewed a young girl and she said it wasn’t right that schools were open but she had a 10 pm curfew on being in the pub. I was 😮. Education over alcohol. The message just isn’t getting through.

Cakestandkitchen · 21/09/2020 14:45

I take it nothing was confirmed today, just that stronger measures were being considered?

SockYarn · 21/09/2020 14:47

No. She said

"We've been having lots of decisions, lots of hard choices to be made, it's coming, we're refining our plans, you'll be the first to know".

It's sort of like a perverse soap opera where they keep you hanging on for the next chapter.

BanditsBum · 21/09/2020 15:08

I think shops/pubs will stay open, maybe with curfews, as will schools (but perhaps with blended learning in place - although please god no I cant homeschool and work at the same time again!)

I think the biggest thing will be households mixing, perhaps (well hopefully) with the promise that if we all actually stick to it then they might ease it off for Christmas.

MrsPerfect12 · 21/09/2020 16:00

I'm hoping support bubbles will still be allowed. My mum wouldn't cope being stuck indoors by herself again.

LarkDescending · 21/09/2020 16:02

The Guardian live feed has a leaked document relating to Scotland (15:57):

www.theguardian.com/politics/live/2020/sep/21/uk-coronavirus-news-latest-whitty-and-vallance-to-present-data-showing-how-trend-in-uk-heading-in-wrong-direction

MrsPerfect12 · 21/09/2020 16:06

@LarkDescending not too bad but support bubbles not covered. It's it's two weeks she would manage.

SockYarn · 21/09/2020 16:07

that people should again stay at home accept for essential shopping

fantastic journalism as ever from the Gruaundia. Hmm

These are just proposals. Of course they are options. Just as doing nothing is an option. All the way through the Guardian has scaremongered and doom-mongered. Those are just a list of all the stuff they did last time.

Now I am the last person on earth to be a Nicola Sturgeon fan, but she's said schools are staying open.

dementedpixie · 21/09/2020 16:11

A lot of areas dont get 2 weeks off in October. We only get 1 week off in North Lanarkshire.

Crimples · 21/09/2020 16:12

Our October break is only one full week plus the mon/tues so be interesting to see if that would need to change (again)

SockYarn · 21/09/2020 16:13

So do we - East Dunbartonshire. In fact i'd say a week was the norm, a fortnight more unusual.

Let's give the kids a week off school and lock them all in their houses! Yay! Hmm

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 21/09/2020 16:16

I’ll be gutted if no households mixing is brought in again. I have a cottage booked to go and visit my sister in Aberdeen, I’ve followed all the rules, I’ve worked in community nursing this whole time and now I might not be able to see her? I really need it for my mental health to be honest and I’m in a rural area that has had very few cases/deaths throughout

Sunnydaysstillhere · 21/09/2020 16:16

Hoping to travel from England to Mull in less than 2 weeks...

Cakestandkitchen · 21/09/2020 16:20

I’ve have real concerns if blended learning kicks in. I’d need to quit my job. So will many friends and work colleagues.

We get 2 weeks in October from a week on Friday. Perthshire.

anotherpersontoday · 21/09/2020 16:23

Leaked document suggesting rolling on off lockdowns. Leisure and hospitality shut, no mixing households, travel restrictions 5 or 30 mile limit. Pretty close to full lockdown with shops, some business and schools still being open. Not sure if schooling will me blended.

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 21/09/2020 16:24

Not sure my mental health will cope with October holidays if we can't go anywhere. I have ptsd, just feel trapped not safe indoors. Lockdown was so bad I nearly got sectioned. It's 2 weeks here (Aberdeenshire) and dh was going to take it off work so we could do some fun things to make up for the fact that we should be in a Dutch theme park right now.

Will be very unhappy if the same restrictions are applied countrywide.

Imloosingmyshit · 21/09/2020 16:47

No visiting anyone
No walking out with 500 metres of your home and not within 600 metres of the nearest other person.
No toilet roll - you will have to buy tracing paper like they did in the old days. But you can’t go to a shop, so book an online delivery slot for 2023
Children should not mix with other households but can go to school and mix with 60 other kids.
You can only
Go to the shop to buy washing powder for the unexplained phenomenon of increased clothes washing due to not going out caused by Covid.
Everyone can go to b and q and buy enough wood to build another granny flat in their back garden.
Anyone who wishes to do so can have their entire house remodelled during lockdown because they can totally afford iron furloughed wages but can’t afford to pay for food and will use food banks. Then talk to the papers about how hard it is.
You can go to the pub with anyone you want but not with members of your immediate or extended family because that’s dangerous.
Everyone is entitled to free washing machine repairs due to the inexplicable number of disposable face masks clogging up
The motor even tho no ones going anywhere and you can’t wear them in the pub cos you’re drinking.
That annoying family down the street can have as many parties as they want and can flout all the rules cos “ Fuck Covid it’s all made up anyway”
Police can stop and search everyone but. It within 100 metres of each other.
That family down the street can let their dog shite all over everyone’s garden cos you’re not allowed to touch other people’s pets and you can’t go within 500 metres of another person, and those big hard men will always stand 501 metres away while they explain to you in the queens English why it’s ok for their dog to do that.

waitforitwaitforit · 21/09/2020 16:54

Can't imagine stopping households mixing will have much of an impact when representatives from 30 household sit in a poorly ventilated room together multiple times a day. Why the hell are they still pretending this has nothing to do with schools?

UnholyStramash · 21/09/2020 16:55

They need to restrict travel especially to the island HBs that currently have no cases AFAIK. On mainland no hobnobbing in people’s houses but hospitality open, maybe with early closing, as that can be monitored more efficiently. Travel restricted to ‘essential’ only - they need to define essential really clearly too.

UnholyStramash · 21/09/2020 16:58

@MrsPerfect12, I agree, people living alone need much more support than before. All these measures, while necessary, can affect MH so badly. Though of course there are loners who prefer being alone but I guess they’re in a minority.
